A few election thoughts

Nov 09, 2016 09:04

I read a headline in my feed that stated: We're all to blame. That's bullshit! Go guilt trip the DNC, the media, the 1%, all the white supremicists, and all the people who take their duties as citizens for granted. I, for one, am not to blame for Donald Trump OR Hillary Clinton, or all Republicans downticket in Congress.  Am I angry? You betcha: BP is sky high. I don't want to go to sleep because I've been having apocalypic dreams the past few weeks. I find sanity in bird song, then the fucking cats come along and kill them, 3 this week alone. I detest cats, no apologies.  To be fair, I also hate pit bulls.

I try to find something about Trump that resonates with my humanity and I can't connect. He's the embodiment of disgusting charcter traits and values that make me crazy. As far as I can tell he's amoral, probably a sociopath, but he's still human:

DSM-IV Definition. Antisocial personality disorder is characterized by a lack of regard for the moral or legal standards in the local culture. There is a marked inability to get along with others or abide by societal rules. Individuals with this disorder are sometimes called psychopaths or sociopaths

I am not alone, the Canadian immigration site crashed last night during the returns. "Something wicked this way comes." (Thank you, Ray Bradbury)

Remember the huge dustup over Obama's preacher? Yeah. So who does Trump listen to? Roy Cohen was his mentor for years. And yes, I remember the McCarthy Hearings. Get ready.

This is such a test:
endless wars
environmental degradation
global warming
massive species extinction
unsustainable human populations
end of capitalism
unprecidented economic inequality
social injustice & chaos
President Trump (get used to it)

While it is a real temptation, it now feels selfish and immature to fall into despair. I've been there, I can tell you it's a waste of time and energy.  My good friend from PTA was always reminding herself (and all of us), "You're either part of the solution or part of the problem."  So hitch up to your dreams, what you feel passionate about, unite with and/or support others who share your passion. You don't need to be Gandhi or Susan B. Anthony, you need to be you. And you are important! No one else brings what you do to the party.  Bernie showed us what $27 can do, but be as sure as you can be that your money isn't going into some asshole's pocket. Look around, be smart. (I just started supporting Truthout, the independent journalism site, thinking that if I don't know about it, I'm guarenteed to be a victim. Corporate media is irresponsible.)

not on my watch, 2016 election, kick butt
