okay, so those of you that know me well know that halloween time is my favorite. also that i love insects.... and also you are aware that i cannot stomach the thought of being anything but dead/morbid/undead/gorey/gross/scary.... or at least a hint of. no french maids, puppy dogs, or anything cute. but i think i might be relaxing the rules a little. i'm not sure. LAST year, i thought i dug all the fairy/butterfly wings at the stores. they are terribly cute in a good way. i like to see girls and boys prancing around in them... so i thought of a way to incorporate it into my personal halloween rules. LAST year i thought "hey! i'll be a SQUASHED bug for halloween!" and then i listened to the advice of others. they said, " people will just look at you funny and ask what happened to your costume". so instead last year i was simple being eaten alive by spiders... but this year, i threw that crummy old advice out. and i prepared to be a squashed bug. initially, i was going to make a small windshield prop to carry around, but thought the better of it. drink in one hand, candy in the other- where do you hold the prop? priorities, right? So here's what i did: I melted and bent an antennae, drew big X's in my 'eyes', bent 2 of my 6 legs outta shape, had some bright green-and-bloody guts spilling out, and bent and tore the hell out of my wings. somehow, i feel that i managed to completely NOT capture the essence of gore. novel, yes, but not gross. and somehow it worked for me anyway. the result: only 2 people at the first party thought "something was wrong with my wings but didn't want to say anything". and the second person thought i was a "sexy fly"... i suppose i'll take that. somehow at the first party i managed to lose my gloves. i looked at my hands and they were gone.... i don't even remember taking them off. so imagine their presence, if you will. at byan & jeaninne's party, everyone knew exactly what i was. and as the night when on and i became less squashed and more smashed, we had a little fun squishing me a some more.
by the way, this is my first time putting photos in this thing, so i'm hoping it works...
this is me "before" the drastic and nearly unrecognizable metamorphosis.
