Sleeping for a full night had been... A difficult thing to attain ever since he woke up here, on this island of madness and constant change. It was mostly out of fear. What if he were to close his eyes and simply fade away into nothingness? What if he went to sleep, only to not wake up again? Masada was alive again, able to be with her and as whole a person as he had ever been (in fact, he felt better than he had in years), but there was no guarantee that this would last ( ... )

As careful and quiet as Masada was being, there was no doubt that somewhere along the way, Llyud heard him approach. The awareness was subconscious so he hadn't made a move yet until he heard the silent call. He shifted a little, feeling his spear bump into his leg from the movement-good, it was still there-before rousing himself ( ... )

Masada was, truth to be told, quite unnerved by how easily he caught the other's attention. The sheer nervousness he felt (though his natural shyness played a part in this as well) brought a flush to his cheeks. Being met like this, with silence, really did throw him off what little emotional balance he usually held and he was at a bit of a loss at what to do. That, and just what did the blank stare mean? How was he supposed to read someone so... Different ( ... )

A frown appeared at the man's question. 'Can he speak'? Of course he could speak; hadn't this man seen an aegyl before? Why was he speaking so softly, anyways? Was he shy? It seemed apparent since the man intended to get some distance between them. Was he intending to run away as well?

Llyud almost felt badly at how the man was reacting from his stare. It softened a little, before he remembered that this man appeared out of nowhere on a-now seemingly-uninhabited island; his gaze hardened again.

To answer his question, he decided to ask a question in return... it was rude to do such a thing, but it was enough to answer him.

"Are you here to harm me?" A useless question to ask, he thought. The man could've been plotting a strategy to down him once Llyud's guard was down. He could easily lie to him, tell him that he meant no harm then backstab him... yet the curiosity outweighed the caution. The man seemed pathetic, at most, and he had to make sure that it wasn't just a fluke.

Being stared at like this, by someone with such an intense and unfaltering gaze, was making him more uncomfortable with each passing second. A deer in the headlights - that was possibly the most fitting description of what he felt like at the moment. And yet, a small part of him nagged at him, insisting that he keep the mostly one-sided conversation going.

Masada's owlish grey eyes widened at the question and here he couldn't help but rapidly shake his head in response, black, sharply cut hair whipping at the sides of his face.

Oh, terrible! Did it look like he was planning to do something bad? Hopefully not. Obviously, this question would, judging from the suspicion, require a well thought-out answer. "Ah, no... P-pain is... So-something I w-would... Never w-want t-to inflict o-on others, " the last sentence came out just as quiet as the previous one, but far shakier, punctuated in the middle by a slight hitch of breath.

He looked sad, but sage. Pain was... Something he had been close friends with for quite some time.

Despite his obvious discomfort, Llyud pressed on with his stare. To falter meant to show weakness and that was the last thing he wanted to do at present. As he spoke and shook his head, Llyud changed his stare so that it became more curious and inquiring, yet still rather intimidating; almost like a "good cop, bad cop" interrogator. Hmm... he seemed to be telling the truth. And Llyud caught the change in tone, plus the hitch, which warranted a curious blink ( ... )

At this point, his awkward fascination with the other almost knew no bounds. Almost serenely, he gazed up at the man - not human, possibly an angel? However, angels had white wings, not red, if he recalled the stories related to Christianity he had heard only briefly - with his good eye, the other one still hidden behind a curtain of hair. It was a force of habit and Masada had learned over the years that an eye that was all wrong didn't exactly help to improve any first impressions.

" I-it's all right. " After all, who wouldn't be wary if some stranger approached them out of nowhere? As far as Masada was concerned, wariness was a perfectly natural reaction. Still quivering out of sheer nervousness, he wound his fingers together to keep them still. " Ah... Err... This... " Alas, his voice wasn't in the mood to cooperate and died down before he could get any further. Talking to someone like this was so difficult... It felt like being stared at by thousands of pairs of eyes all at once, exposed and vulnerable beyond belief. Still, ( ... )

Llyud found the other man's reactions to be familiar; he recalled how Filo would tend to act fidgety around him, especially after what had happened in Tswarra. He never figured out why she acted like that, though. With no resistance against his curious nature, Llyud tilted his head when he saw how the man covered half of his fave with his hair. 'Why would you cover it?' he silently wondered, 'Wouldn't you not be able to see very well out of only one unobstructed eye?'

Not the same place... so he noted. The landscape on the sky island he had found had vegetation such as this, yet the ground was uneven. There were many cliffsides hidden in the forest... he would know, he fell asleep against one. The ground here was very flat and he had noticed the change of surface behind him. It was very obvious that Llyud was no longer in the same general area he was in before, if not on the sky island he found at all. The big question, of course, was...

"Where is this?"

" Th-this... Is a-an island, " came the soft reply as he reached up self-conciously to run his fingers over the hair that covered half of his face. Rarely did conversations with strangers go this well, and he couldn't deny that he felt kind of proud of himself for not making up some bad excuse to leave yet.

A few deep breaths, and Masada swallowed around the tight, troublesome knot in his throat that just didn't want to fully go away. " S-salkia, th-they call it. D-don't know m-much, though... "

"Salkia..."

Curiosity nearly outweighed his concern for the other aegyl at the moment. First of all, how did he get here? Have the other aegyl even noticed? Who is this person, and why is he covering his face like that? Was he hiding something? Llyud was almost tempted to move the hair away from his face just so that he could see if there was something that warranted hiding.

He crossed his arms, frowning. "So we are in the Underworld? Not in Purvama?"

" We-well, we're... N-not in, err.... The sky... " he replied, nervous as ever, shrugging with a small and very awkward sheepish smile It seemed a somewhat reasonable answer. At least to him. Masada wasn't really sure what "Underworld" or "Purvama" meant, but he could think of a few possible meanings. Perhaps he was talking about earth and a city in the sky?

" A-as far as... I-I know, at least. "

"I see."

Damn. This was bad. Very, very bad. He wasn't on the sky island, he was in the Underworld. Away from the people he was supposed to lead. He could try to fly up to the skies and try to find the island but his wings were feeling so heavy from flying for so long before... he was barely able to stand.

Llyud sighed in minor frustration, then looked back to the man. "I apologize for asking so many questions. I'm just... confused."

In a more friendlier tone, he adds, "I am Llyud."

Masada shook his head again, heart thudding hard in his chest. He wasn't used to being met with such... Well, such respect in person and it was certainly giving his poor nerves a rough shake. Just the thought that perhaps this encounter would end up being nothing but pleasant after all made a very nice feeling of warmth spread in his chest. I-it's alright... I-I suspect th-that... A-anyone would be. "

He tries his best to mirror that friendly tone. " ...Masada. "

"It is good to meet you, Masada."

He had to admit, past the shock of waking up in a completely different place, this conversation was pleasant. It was far more different than his conversations with Clan Galbana-which were usually so active and loud-and Llyud found himself liking it. It was a nice distraction from his current situation... though he still needs to get out of here.

His head tilted as curiosity finally took over. "Why do you cover your face?"
