He was glad that the arcade was still in the mall. It meant they had at least a little stretch to clear before they were outside in the cold. More time for him to wake himself up, as well.

More time to talk.

"I'm sorry for my absence lately. There's no real excuse for it." Other than that he'd been feeling sorry for himself. But that wasn't a real excuse and Yuugi deserved better.

"You don't have to apologize to me." Yuugi understood it, at least. Sort of. Of course it hurt and reminded him of how useless he was, but he trusted Atem. Always.

"I think I understand."

"I do, though. Grieving over something that's so far in the past causing me to jeopardize what my future entails is not alright." His future on this island, anyway. It was the only one he had left. And with these people, that was only truer.

Yuugi was his future, technically. Everything he'd tried to instill in himself would live on in Yuugi's future, most likely. Their memories and what they'd learned together. Giving up on that for makeshift time about things he couldn't change wasn't the right thing to be doing.

"But its important to you. It affected you personally. You can't just... forget about something like that." Yuugi took 'future' as 'his life on the island' since his confidence levels kept him from taking it further than that. Him and Atem were two completely different people. To say they shared the same soul... Yuugi didn't feel deserving enough to do so. Even if all he wanted was to be on the same level as him, he still looked up to the former Pharaoh.

"And anyway... it might be a long time, but its not a long time for you." He remembered vaguely how odd the passage of time felt in Atem's nightmare. What could have felt like a day or two could have easily been years.

"No, I can't." He agreed quietly, pulling his jacket tighter around him as they prepared to step outside. The cold definitely made this feeling worse somehow. As if being in a physical state of cold just amplified his negative feelings. He couldn't really explain it. It probably had more to do with the fact that being cold made him grumpier, anyway.

"But that doesn't make you any less important. In fact, you'll always be more important. You're alive. You're with me now." This was what they had left, what they had to look forward to. Atem needed to stop messing things up.

He flashed a light smile at his partner. "Holding onto that notion is a thousand times better than hanging on to the ones that hurt."

Yuugi was... once again reminded about how he forgot a coat. He crossed his arms to him, gingerly trying to favor his bitten one, as he stepped outside with what remained of his work shirt to protect him. Of course, his cold tolerance was higher than Atem's. Plus... he was so caught up with Jou's distress message that he didn't even realize it when he left....

...well, thankfully Atem wasn't asking about that, because he wasn't sure how to even explain what happened. He was, however, doing a good job at bringing out a sheepish smile from Yuugi.

"That's not true." Oh, modesty. "You're important, too! You've always been. And I'll..." He trailed off thoughtfully. No, that promise, of always being there... he couldn't guarantee. Not here. Not anymore. His smile faded.

"I want to be there for you, as much as I can. I don't want you to feel like you have to hide from me."

Oh, but Atem would notice after a moment of realizing he had a coat when his partner did not. Without even asking, he slipped the coat off his shoulders and around Yuugi's. No need to have any dialogue about that, Yuugi would wear the coat and that was that. He'd deal with the cold.

"I wasn't hiding from you." No, that hadn't been. He felt a little bad that he'd let it get that far, that he'd let Yuugi think that. "I was just... secluding myself." Pride had a lot to say about it, that he didn't want to get caught being remorseful and sad. Not as much as he had been anyway.

Yuugi blinked as the jacket was placed around him, and he would try to protest, at least. He didn't even register the cold, so he didn't need one. Right? Still, it felt nice... considering how long he went without one.

He nodded as they walked, toying with the bandages on his arm.

"Are you still going to?"

The question caught him off guard slightly. Atem took a moment to think about the various answers he could give. Would he be anymore? After this latest fiasco it showed that no matter how quiet it could get here, there was always trouble waiting to happen. It showed that when he was needed the most, placing himself into seclusion was obviously the worst time.

"No, I don't think so." He'd never had any real time to grieve his loss. It seemed he never really would. But maybe it was better that way.

Yuugi noticed the hesitation, but walked quietly until Atem spoke.

"You can take more time, if you need it." He wasn't sure on what Atem's customs were, when this was involved.
