Ever since the bonfire, Neji had been thinking about going out and getting some warmer clothes now. When he was at the gathering, all that he could think about for ten straight minutes was why he hadn't bought any gloves to wear. He knew that it would start getting cold again, yet he ignored every thought about it.

So, today, he was going to go out and he was going to buy warmer clothes. It took a lot of work for him to even think about leaving the house, but once he had thrown on a pair of black jeans, a white tank top and tugged on his jacket over that, he'd ventured out of his apartment and started towards the mall, though warily.

Once he was inside, he rubbed his hands together to get the heat back into them, blowing lightly to warm his fingers before a certain head of tri-colored hair caught his attention. He straightened up a bit, taking a few more steps forward then raising his hand and calling out. ``Atem!``

His name in the air got him to stop walking. It wasn't as if he had actually had a destination in mind anyway. Then he turned and looked around to see who was calling out for him. His eyes landed on the familiar ninja and he smiled, raising an opposite hand to give him a small wave.

"Neji."

When Atem stopped walking, a small bout of relief flooded through him; he wouldn't have to chase the other down to ask how he was doing. Picking up his pace a bit, Neji continued towards the other male, halting when he was sure that he was close enough.

``It's good to see you.`` Unharmed was the word that was left unsaid.

His hands slipped into his pockets as his stance went a little lax, back curving slightly. He was at ease around Neji, obviously. Friendly and familiar as the other was.

"And you as well. How have you been doing?" He didn't remember seeing the other at the bonfire and had only talked to him sparsely before then. Then again, he didn't remember seeing a lot of people there. He'd been out of it. But... just in case, his eyes scanned around quickly for any intruding statues..

As soon as Atem relaxed, Neji did the same thing, moving his arms to cross loosely over his chest, a smile crossing his face finally. It was nice to be able to just be around someone without having to worry about saying something wrong or worrying about their state of mind.

``I've been alright,`` he replied, blinking then glancing around also when Atem did so. It took him a few seconds, but then he remembered what had been happening to people that didn't go to the bonfire. ``Don't worry. No statues following me.``

His gaze was quickly replaced back on Neji when the other read his mind. Though he did scoff slightly, amused and joking all the same. "It's almost a shame. I haven't had the chance to see one just yet." He wasn't exactly sure that he wanted to, either. But... maybe just once wouldn't hurt. He wanted to know what the fuss was about.

"So what brings you out to the mall?" Work? Did.. Neji have a job? He'd never thought to ask. Though somehow the thought of Neji working in one of these places almost didn't seem to fit right.

``Are you saying that you want me to have one?`` There was obviously a joking tone in his voice and his smile shifting to a smirk should have been plain to see also. He didn't think that Atem would want him to have one of those things following him around and creeping him out.

``Well, I actually came out to buy some warmer gloves ... `` He did have a job, but luckily, he was off today.

"No I don't want you to have one. But it would have been an easy way for me to get a look at one. And I think you could handle it." Something about creepy soulless statues that stared at you. ...how scary could they really be? Honestly. He wanted to find out. But there was that small part of him that didn't want to all the same.

At the mention of clothing, he looked around. Were they near a clothing store? "Mm. The cold seems to be settling in very fast." The not-quite-there growl in his tone was an easy tip off to his feelings towards that.

``I was only joking. Though, I have to agree with you and say that I probably could handle it.`` The idea of strange statues following people around, but not doing anything to harm you didn't sound like too much of a problem.

The tone of Atem's voice at the mention of the cold made him barely smile once more, his arms moving so he could tuck his hands into his pockets. ``I'm guessing you don't like the cold.``

"I can't stand it." He came from a land of hot, scorching desert heat. "Being here was actually the first time I'd ever seen snow." While desert temperatures could drop well below zero at night, he'd rarely ever been out in them. And snow was a new creation all together.

"It's annoying, to say the least." He wanted 100 degree weather back. Though had Salkia temperatures ever reached that high?

``At times, it can be very annoying, but I find the snow very ... `` Comforting? Was that the word? He wasn't sure, so he let the sentence hang in the air, hands clenching tightly into fists in his pockets.

It brought back too many bad memories.

``It does get rather unbearable, yes?`` Thank goodness he was able to respond to something else.

An eyebrow arched as he was left hanging on that unfinished sentence. He wondered what the other man was going to say about it, but in the end he felt it was probably best not to press it. If it was his business, Neji would have finished talking, after all.

He had to nod. "I think so. I don't even think bundling up in warm clothes helps the situation much. And the cold always seems to leave me getting sick." Another aspect of it that he couldn't help but hate.

Nodding in return to that, Neji shifted a bit and lifted his hands, brushing them over his hair to smooth back some of the strands. He hadn't meant to make things awkward, but Atem saved the conversation at least.

``I suppose it would depend on how much you feel like wearing to keep yourself warm. Anyone can get sick during the winter.`` Even me, he thought silently.

"Mm." A small nod. He'd seen others around here get sick. It wasn't as if he were the only one. But it still was a nuisance. A big giant annoying nuisance.

"Well, I suppose that's what piling on warm clothes is for." He smiled a little. Maybe he should go shopping for more, too. "Do you have all you need? Gloves are the last thing?"

For a moment, he had to rack his brain; he did have everything else, right? Coat, boots, long sleeved shirts, warm pants ... Ah! What about something to keep his ears warm along with his hands?

``Well, I suppose I'll need to invest in a hat, too.`` Because it just wouldn't do for his hair and ears to get frozen along with his fingers.

His eyes raised for a moment as if he was trying to see the rest of his hair. He was looking at his bangs and for a moment displayed a bit of amusing indulgence.

"I guess I might be unlucky in that department." A hat really wouldn't ever do well with his hair, would it?
