Birkin himself hadn't been out much since then. Having decided to hold himself up in his apartment, with good reason of course. He wouldn't admit to anyone that he was having a hard time controlling himself around people, so this was also a test for him. Being around others who were not infected took a great toll out of him, and it made him want to do things that was not normally part of his character. He felt if he needed to he could always say he was just anti-social, because this was true. But all of this, in a place that he wasn't used to, had caused him to feel more than a little depressed. It didn't help that Christmas was also around the corner, not that he really celebrated the holiday at home, not having time with work and all.

William made his way to the Chinese resturaunt, gritting his teeth as he moved between people. When he finally reached his destination, he felt like someone took all of the air from his body. He hadn't been this nervous in a while. He tried to catch Yamato's eyes but when he couldn't he sighed and went over to the table and sat down across from her. Now he wouldn't look her in the eyes, even though that is what he wanted not but a few minutes ago.

He didn't look healthy, and it was obvious he had lost a lot of weight. The dark circles under his blue eyes more prominant than before. Finally he glanced up, and smiled weakly.

"I'm sorry I'm late." He said, unsure of how long she might have been waiting. He didn't really know where everything was yet.

"How have you been?" Might as well jump right into the pleasantries, right?

Yamato scowled a little at Birkin's sickly appearance, though he scowls were never little more than agitated pouts. The man needed to take better care of himself. Honestly, she apparently couldn't leave him to himself.

"You're not all that late," the girl responded flippantly with a shrug. "I've been pretty good though." It was true, all things considered. She was slightly bothered by Kouya, who had just disappeared and then come back even more distant than before. However, if that was meant for any part of their conversation, it certainly wasn't meant for the opening pleasantries.

"How about you?" She decided to not bring attention to his appearance. He would tell her, she was sure. Even if he didn't, she would eventually drag it out of him.

"I have been alright." He was lying, he hadn't been fine. But, he wasn't doing it to hurt her. Last they had seen of eachother, Yamato had been going through a hard time, and William wasn't really much of an attention seeker. He preferred not talking about himself actually. He figured it was a good way to not make enemies in a place like this.

"I am glad you have been good. I was a little worried to be honest. Did your friend ever turn back up?" He wasn't tactful it seems, jumping right into something she may not have wanted to talk about quite yet.

He was lying, it was obvious, but that was fine. She'd get it out of him soon enough.

At his query, Yamato looked a bit pensive, but quickly covered it with a shrug. "She did, but she's acting all stubborn now. It's really annoying." Annoying, indeed. She'd always hated when Kouya got in these moods in the past, and now it was even more annoying all things considered. She wouldn't even let Yamato help.

William thought for a moment. He frowned, not sure how to respond sine he had never really met Kouya. But he did know she seemed to cause Yamato a lot of grief at times. Still, he wasn't one to judge.

"Maybe she just needs time." He stated. "Maybe it's something she needs to deal with on her own. While it is nice for others to offer help occasionally, learning to depend on yourself is part of growing up."

He thought it was true. But, he learned to depend on himself at a young age. That didn't mean that he wouldn't accept help on occasion. He also hoped that his thoughts were acceptable and that he wasn't overstepping his bounds on the subject.

Yamato gave another one of her agitated pout-scowls. He was right, but it was something she had a hard time accepting. True, her and Kouya had been strained for month upon month now; however, this was the first time she'd pushed Yamato in such a manner. She hated what being in this place had done to them, but... She loved so many people she'd met here. It was a difficult feeling, and a trade off she wasn't sure how she about.

"So, what have you been up to?" she asked the scientist, looking up from the plate she'd been staring at intently. It had an obvious lack of food, and hopefully someone would be by soon to rectify that.

William was a little shocked by the sudden change of subject. He guessed it was about time though, he couldn't dwell on her problem all day even if he would rather do that than talk about himself right now. Still, he smiled, and his hands curled slightly. He was nervous, though he didn't think he should be.

"I haven't been up to a whole lot." He said, "Mostly reading. I wouldn't say that I have been bored though."

William had begun to wonder on food as well. He wasn't quite sure when he had last ate.

Trying to pry a bit more out of him, though attempting some tact, Yamato leaned forward, resting her shin on her hand. "Whatcha been reading?" she sing-songed, waving over a waiter with her free hand.

She grinned up at the waiter when he arrived. "I'd like some Kung Pao Shrimp with steamed rice, an egg roll, and a Coke," she listed off quickly. Steamed rice, the one time she'd pick the healthier alternative.

She turned back to grin at Birkin, waiting for him to place his order.
