He was silent as he followed his brother. He had done what was needed, yet he didn't feel any different. The only thing that had changed from the time he had walked in to the time he left was the throbbing in his head. it had gone from dull, bad, and the to worse.
Of course using his Mangekyou -although mildly- hadn't helped.
He paused, completely halting his movements, only bringing one hand to come to a rest over his left eye. The fuzzy outline that had slowly formed around his vision had worsened. It was slight, but still apparent.
The meeting had been pointless right from the start. This "justice" system that people were trying to implement on the island was hardly going to work against criminals, especially if the best thing they could have thought of was putting them on house arrest. It had been a waste of time.
Having sensed that his brother had stopped behind him, Sasuke halted in his steps as well, glancing over his shoulder to look at Itachi.
Of course he was worried about his brother's eyesight. That was why he had volunteered to use Mangekyou in the other's stead. But ultimately it had been the older Uchiha's right to do the punishment. Still, that didn't mean he didn't like the thought of Itachi using Mangekyou anymore than he should.
"Aniki."
He let his hand fall back down to his side, looking up at his brother. Sure, he could have let Sasuke do it, but his sight was already bad, and Sasuke's...well it had only just begun. It was the last thing he needed to see is his brother's eyes ending up like his own.
"I just need to rest a little longer."
Just nodding simply, Sasuke waited so that he could walk beside his brother instead of having the other behind. He knew that Itachi was capable, but it was just in case. It was bad enough that the other had died (again, his mind supplied), he didn't want anything else to happen to the other.
"We should get back then. I'm tired of Sakura yelling about you needing more bed rest," Sasuke said with just an edge of annoyance. The pink-haired girl's voice grated on his nerves when she was being so loud.
After a moment he took a step forward, falling in place beside his brother.
"As well am I, even if she does mean well."
He wasn't looking forward to being looked over so much by the medic, so when they reached the floor where she had been watching him he continued forward. He had his own bed and would use it. He only paused briefly to look over and see if Sasuke would follow.
Dark eyes watched Itachi and without another thought, Sasuke followed after Itachi. He'd been with his brother all this while, he didn't particularly like the thought of leaving just yet. It was probably unnecessary, but having witness the other's death twice didn't sit well with him. A third won't happen, he had promised himself.
"Hn, she should know her limits."
They didn't need her anymore. If Itachi needed anything, Sasuke would be more than enough to handle it.
He was perturbed. Perhaps it showed now finally that they were in Itachi's apartment, or maybe it had since he left. He wasn't sure if he had hidden it well enough with the ever growing throb under his skull. It was all because despite some better judgment, he had gone back and watched the video. It was the blonds face that stuck with him. He had looked so...broken.
His eyebrows furrowed, Itachi slipped his sandals off, resting them neatly off to the side. He stood for a moment in the middle of his living room, pulling the tie from his hair. It helped, taking a small amount of pressure off his head, but not enough.
His hand covered over his left eye again, looking over at Sasuke with his right. With a sigh he headed back to his room.
Sasuke watched his brother go before taking his own sandals off, mentally sighing. There was something wrong with his brother, something much more than just needing some rest. He didn't know what it was that gave Itachi away, but it was just... something.
Instead of following the other immediately, he went to the kitchen and rummaged around to make some tea. It would help relax not only Itachi but himself as well. He had wanted to kill Deidara but obviously refrained himself while standing in that room. Not only because there were so many people who would try to stop him, but because he wanted to see how the others would try to deal with the situation. And they handled it poorly. Time and effort wouldn't have been wasted if they had just let them handle it.
Either way, it was done and nothing more could be done. For the time being anyway.
Taking up the two cups, he headed for Itachi's room, knocking on the door before entering.
Upon entering his room, Itachi crawled into his bed, laying back on his pillows. He stared at the window, or rather at the wind chime that hung just in front of it. He watched as it moved softly to and fro in the breeze. Transfixed on it, he let his mind plunge into his own thoughts, not even noticing when Sasuke entered.
Eyes shifted to where transfixed eyes were looking before closing. It seemed his gift was good for something and if it helped, all the better.
With a resigned sigh, Sasuke walked over to where Itachi laid and held out the cup of steaming tea. "Aniki, you should drink this," he said in a softer voice.
Whether the worry showed on his face or in his voice, he didn't know nor did he care. Barriers were often brought down when he was alone with his brother. Besides, there was something on Itachi's mind and he wanted to know what was bothering the older male. He may not be the best at these kinds of things, but he could at least listen. He could offer that much.
He gaze flickered over to Sasuke, sitting up and slowly took the tea offered him. He held it for a moment, staring down at the cup in his hands for a moment before sighing.
He looked up at his brother, taking a small sip of the tea. It was good, and yeah, it would help him relax, if only physically. His mind was just to preoccupied at the moment.
Sasuke watched, only periodically taking a sip from his own cup.
It was obvious his brother wasn't going to start talking unless he asked what was wrong. And though there was that chance of the other not answering his question, he still had to at least try. He only hoped that Itachi wouldn't shut him out, not again.
"Something's bothering you, aniki. What is it." More of a statement than a question, but at least it out there.
Yet he remained quiet for a little while longer, sipping slowly at his tea.
Hi eyes wandered back to the wind chime, once again fixated on it. Though the image of the blonds face flashed through his mind, and his hand pressed over his eye as a sharp pain shot through his skull.
"I watched the video. I was curious as to how it looked from the view of someone else. Though it was oddly confusing.
For Deidara to kill me, something he has been after for a few years now, I wonder why he looked so broken.
I am not worried, I am just thrown off by how what was shown is different then what would be expected."
Dark eyes narrowed as Sasuke took in the other's words.
He had been too angry to fully see everything on the video, just focusing on the fact that his brother had died again. There was no blame in that, he knew but now he wondered about what Itachi had just said. Why would someone who had been wanting to kill his brother for so long look broken instead of ecstatic? It was probably a question that only one person could really answer and said person was now in no condition to do so.
With another silent sigh, the younger Uchiha's relaxed a little. "Well it's not like you can the answer since only he really could, even though I doubt he would. Ask him when he wakes up and in the meanwhile don't think about it. You still need to recover after using the Mangekyou."
He had already planned on as soon as the blond woke up he was going to ask him. It might be troublesome, and Deidara may ignore him, but Itachi was still going to ask.
He fell silent again, finishing off the rest of his tea, setting the cup off to the side on his nightstand. He felt a little better, now that he was able to speak about what was weighing on his mind. Still he felt tired after everything.
He shifted on his bed, returning to a laying position, though this time he laid on his side. His gaze returned to Sasuke, and though he wouldn't speak it, he wanted him to stay. It was comforting being able to have his brother with him after everything that had happened.
Sasuke met that gaze and though it was hard to tell, as it always was with his brother, he could see what the other wanted. Like he would really go anywhere while Itachi laid there, not at full health.
He settled himself on the ground next to Itachi's bed, making himself with his lukewarm cup of tea.
Words usually weren't needed between them, but this one time he would say them. Not only for his brother's sake, but for his own as well. That he wasn't anywhere else other than where he wanted to be at that moment.
"Rest aniki. I'll be here."
He settled further into his pillows as Sasuke sat next to his bed. It was a brief glimmer of normality of how things once were in their twisted lives. It had nearly killed Itachi to do what he had done to his little brother all those years. Now he could focus of being the brother he once was, instead of the one he had pretended to be.
"Arigatou otouto," he responded as his eyes closed.
