First, the published books - Grave Mercy was a better book then I expected, it sat on my ibooks bookshelf for so long untouched that I was starting to think I had tried it and immediately disliked it.

Delving into it this time was lovely. The beginning sped by quickly, obviously wanting to just get to the point for our heroine was a kick ass assassin with all the training taken care of. I wouldn't call it particularly original, but it also wasn't entirely predictable. Comfortable, and entertaining over all.

A Vintage Affair is one I was pulled to by it's talk of fine fabrics, pretty beading, and layers and layers of crinoline, but underneath there was a story worth sticking around for. A story of grief and starting over, which are two themes I enjoy reading, so it was a pleasant surprise.

As far as fics go, a few stood out. I loved the missing name bit of Flowers for Penny, and hope that it continues on. I was also pleasantly surprised by The Teenage Approximation, and look forward to reading more of that. Maybe it's because Sheldon and Amy are already still sort of stunted adults, but dialogue between them seems so in character and also in complete sync with their setting.

I did reread Out of It simply because I loved it so much, and wanted to make an appropriate cover for it. From the Sheldon angle, that huge change of events seem to go so smoothly, like, but of course that's how that would become so serious, so fast. Penny would probably want to talk about it more, but I still like that she doesn't.

Let's see, there was also some Community fic this week. I'll probably read some more of that next week. The highlights were definitely Basic Principles of Romantic Inertia by oneofthemuses and Turn Left by Carly-M. Both of them are Jeff and Annie, the first a series of not-date dates. The second is a what-if much like that Doctor Who ep, or the alternate timeline episode. The humor was pretty dead on (at least imho.) Also in that theme is End of the Night, Seven Different Times. A continuation of what happened that night, in all the timelines.

Next week I'll be reading the second His Fair Assassin book (Grave Mercy series,) and whatever else strikes my fancy.

[Totals: 2 books; 24,683 words in the pool.]
