Why is it so hard to forget someone you like?

So like the subject says, why is it so hard to forget someone you like? well the reason i belive its hard is cause you have the feelings for them, and you no they need to go away, but you dont no how to send them off without forgeting the person or without hurting them, or pushing them away.... so its like this, you flip a coin and it comes up heads, what do you do? WHAT DO YOU DO? please leave me comments and tell me WHAT DO YOU DO?
