I just finished reading The Lies of Locke Lamora, and am pleased to report that it was gorgeously-fucking-epic.
I found out they were supposed to make a movie about it- I don't know if they still are, but I don't see how they could possibly do the book justice with only a single two or three-hour movie. The book was filled with such deliciously vivid detail, a movie would be a hollow shell in comparison.
It would make an excellent series though, animated or live action.
By coincidence, I also found out there may be a movie coming out for Carpe Demon as well. That would be entertaining, and nicely encapsulated in a two-hour(ish) time frame.
Still on the topic of books: I'd been considering getting the sequel to Through Wolf's Eyes, but hadn't committed to it, since I'm reading about fifty thousand other things at the moment. I just happened to find it in the hall closet of "books I haven't looked at for more than half a decade". I guess I bought it from Foozles, figured out it was the second in a series, and never bothered with it again.
*grins* Lucky!
I've also recently picked up Barry Eisler's John Rain series. I have every book but the latest one, and I plan to grab that one when I'm finished with the others. The first two were well worth reading, so I have high expectations for the rest.
Gah- if I keep this up, I'll start listing off every blasted book on my pile. I'll move on.
Yesterday I went to the grocery store with a couple of friends. I was dressed extremely casually, for a day of lounging around the house. I wore a shirt I'd gotten from Yaoi-con, with two angsting pretty-boys on the front, and text that read "Just Do Him" on the back.
A friendly, grandfatherly-looking man asked me to move my pony-tail so he could read the back. Flustered as he was when he read it, I still had to explain the full meaning to him. Still, it started a fairly pleasant conversation between us, which was better (though not as viscerally satisfying) than some reactions I've gotten from that kind of apparel.
I have another, older, baby-doll shirt which reads "I *heart* boys..." on the front, and "...with other boys." on the back, with an accompanying (and adorable) image. I once wore it to Frank and Son's, a sort of indoor geek flea market. I was accosted there by an extremely large (to my 5'1"), unpleasant biker and his buddies. He put his arm around me and said, "So you like boys, do you," with his face extremely close to my own.
As a side note, I do not liked to be touched by people I'm neither dating nor related to.
Regardless, I smiled at him.
"Oh, yes. By the way, did you read the rest of the shirt?" I wriggled out from his arm and displayed the back for them.
He jumped away from me as if I'd shocked him with a live wire.
"That's- you're- SICK!"
Yes, because I was the one with social problems.
Still, I got to walk away the victor, and his friends didn't stop laughing until after I'd left.
I can't help but think I should put a bit more thought into my clothes once in a while.
