Thanks to those who responded to my tentative toe back into the water of livejournal.    It has been a long time between drinks.  Well... not really, but we’re not here to discuss my alcohol intake :-)

I’d like to say my life has undergone dramatic and life altering changes - for the better - since I last posted but...nah.    So, for the benefit of interested parties and my future memoirs,  here’s a brief rundown on what’s been happening in my world the past few years.

Home:
Still living in the same house.  Still in need of repair.  Still not happening.  Thing is, I think between us, Dale and I could afford to give this place an overall.  The problem is dealing with the whole disruption of home.   Where do we go while the work is done?   My brother might be able to live out of his truck, but I can’t.   Still it needs to be addressed and it’s on my list of things to nag Dale about over Xmas.   Maybe.

Health:
Still breathing.  So that’s good.  My sinuses still hate every change in the weather.  I can live with the resulting sniffles, the headaches are a pain.  Literally.  Speaking of which (pain) - the other ongoing hassle  is arthritis and assorted related conditions.  I had a couple of incidences in the last few (prolapsed disc, PMR)  that left me basically bed ridden.  Not much fun there.   This getting old(er) thing sucks.

Wealth:
See ‘Home’.  The fact that I’m still in the house of disrepair (THOD) should be a good indicator that the Lotto Gods have not smiled upon me.   On the upside, THOD is wholly owned by my brother and myself, so no mortgage worries here for now, and I don’t run a car or other budget intensive activities.  Well, aside from my usual dvd habit and current minor addiction to online shopping sites like Catch Of The Day.  But that’s a subject for another time.

Work:
Still working for the same place.  Just started my 28th year.  So much for that “I’ll just do this until something better comes along” idea I had when I started.  Thing is, once upon a time, it was a good place to be;  nice people, fun lunchtime and afterhours get togethers, workmates worth talking to, bosses who would actually listen to you and even if the work was repetitious and dull, at least the atmosphere was good.  Time and attitudes change and these days it’s all about ‘productivity’, ‘benchmarks’ and ‘manhours’ and whatever the buzzword of the day is.  We have these periodic sessions where all the staff in my section are ‘invited’ to attend to hear our directors talk about the direction of our work and office.  They call them ‘Town Halls’.  What an utterly ridiculous name!   The keyword is ‘invited’ and after the first one I’ve declined to attend.  They are supposed to be ‘open for staff discussion’ but as far as I can tell very little of that actually goes on.  I don’t know for myself, because I haven’t attended since the first one.  All it seems to be is TPTB telling us stuff the latest ‘grand plan’ for our work year - stuff we could easily read in an email.  A total waste of time as far as I’m concerned.

...okay...getting a little ranty there... :-)

Anyway, that’s it for now.  Next time...well, I’m not sure what I’ll write about next time.  But I will write.  I’m setting myself a goal to post once a week.  Even if it’s just a repeat of witticisms from my twitter account.

Pinky promise.
