another edition of Succinct Music Review!!!
Panic! At The Disco: A Fever You Can's Sweat Out
quite possibly this year's Fall Out Boy- i say that in accordance of the deep rooted love i and others have for the group, not because of their recent success. chock full of intelligent lyrics, driving guitars, carnival music, and house beats lies a piece of solid gold in cd form. this is my new obsession for the year.
Houston Calls: A Collection of Short Stories
as they have with the previous band, Fall Out Boy's newly acquired Midas Touch has brought to light another great band. melodic, better than generic pop punk (with just a small dose of synth pop mixed in), Houston Calls is a romp through all the good feelings and sadness of a modern day emo heart.
Boys Night Out: Trainwreck
probably the weakest of the Fall Out Boy Effect trilogy, Boys Night Out has put together one hell of an idea for an album. opening with a doctors narration, this is a story of a man dealing with himself after killing his one true love. a journey through prison, release, relapse, coming to terms and dying, it certainly is an original plan. many songs lack a true form, but still provide plenty of though-provoking entertainment.
Death Cab For Cutie: Transatlanticism
truthfully, i knew this was a hit well before i purchased it. but i heard a song echoing from overhead while in Best Buy, and remembered why it would be a worthy addition to my colelction. first, its Death Cab, you can't go wrong. Second, well, there need be no second point. Mr Gibbard is musical bard, wrapping intricate stories into 3:30 plays for the mind. Title and Registration is by far one of the best songs for this new decade.
Foo Fighters: In Your Honor
if you haven't heard about this album yet, you are in a cave and deserve to die alone. a two parter with one side all rock-out, the other acoustic, it is foo fighters no different than they have always been: excellent. sometimes i thank kurt for french kissing a shotgun. and then i smile. Side One: another great outing for dave and co. Side Two: a little redundant, but i love it in small chunks
Led Zeppelin: Early Days & Latter Days
just a collection of, you guessed it, their best hits from the beginning and the end. but seriously, its zeppelin, which equals Transcending Time. in my mind, page and plant are responsible for continuing the shaping of today's music that the Beatles started. and that's not a bad torch to carry on.
BAM. there you have it.
bitches.
