The opinion I'm about to express is highly emotive to some people so. . .
I just read a piece about a couple who showed extreme neglect to their children.
They got a limited jail sentence. Bah.
They should both get sterilized as well.
Here's my opinion.
I think that all people that SHOW that they are incapable of taking care of children for the LONG term
should be sterilized AND have their name put on the paedophiles register AND the social care register so they do not have access to take care of any children in any form.
So many people, so little time.
Why do I feel this way?
Simply put, children are special. They come into this world utterly helpless, needing inordinate amounts of care and protection. Until such time they are mentally, physically and emotionally capable of taking care of themselves, their world is shaped by adults. They need the BEST that life can give them for the length of their childhood and teenage years.
I chose not to have children because until recently, I was not psychologically able to cope with the huge amount of responsibilty. And I KNEW this.
Turns out I can't have children even if I do want them. This is no great loss really. *shrug*
I'm sorry that I cannot give my Father the chance to be a grandparent. He would have been a wonderful granddad. Much like his own Father. But that is the ONLY regret. Oh, I lie. Of course I'd like children now I am happy to bear the responsibility. But that wasn't the hand I was dealt. Ah well.
You know, people who want to be sterilized during their early child-bearing years (18-26) are told "no, you might want to have children eventually.".
NO!
As if there are not enough people.
Later.
