I noticed a post in
lost_geek about Jack. Basically the author was asking why people dislike him. There were a great deal of responses - mostly people saying why they like Jack. I did respond there but the post was from June so I figured I would just compose my response here as well. Do I like Jack? As far as I am concerned it's not about "like" it's about respect. I just can't respect Jack as a leader. Its not his crying that bothers me, its the whineing. (ie. "Everyone wants me to be a leader until I make a decision they don't like.") Jack is stubborn and he needs to learn the difference between being boss being bossy. He rarely cares what other people think. When he makes a decision, thats it. He is not willing to negotiate. I think that makes him a poor leader and an even less respectable human being. Jack has a lot of demons, but he's brought them on himself. (ie. drinking) Sadly, I don't see him trying to overcome his shortcomings like the other characters. Jack sees the world in black and white - and he consistantly makes bad decisions based on this world view. Having said all this, I would like add that he is the character with the most potential to grow. Also, I know that he does have many good qualities as well. It will be interesting to see what they do with his character over the next season. I certainly don't want him off the show. The story depends on all kinds of characters to make it work. LOST just wouldn't be the same without him.
Anyway, I have finished my summer course work in Ethics and so much of what I have learned can be applied to LOST. Especially what I learned about reasoning. I have some ideas that I'll share in a later post.
Also, ComicCon is over and spoilers run amuck. Keep them away from me!
The flash forward is a flash forward. That sucks. You know they could have kept that to themselves and let me ponder the last ep for a while longer. I think I might re-watch it. I am on the look out for clues!
