Well let's see, I helped figure out what was wrong with a power supply, feel kinda silly because it should have been remarkably obvious, but it was the first time I'd seen that happen so I'm learning...
I also was told an interesting story by my teacher: Apparently power supplies can, on VERY rare occasions, start surging instead of just failing. He said he found a powersupply that was having 18 volt spikes in the 12 volt, 8 volt spikes in the 5 volt, and the -12 volt was dropping all the way down to -3 at the time of the spikes. Needless to say, that fried the entire computer. Apparently it happens only very very rarely, but it's something to watch out for.
