Okay so maybe it was 11:30 but anyway, I've decided that grocery shopping at basically midnight on a Friday has some not necessarily good qualities and some just quirky things to notice.
First thing I hadn't thought about...the deli wouldn't be open. I'll need to go back tomorrow to get the virginia ham that was on sale that I wanted for sandwiches for Jeff and I for the week...crap.
Next thing I notice is that there are about 3X as many people out and about stocking the shelves as there are actually people shopping in the store. That and there are random pallets and boxes of stock pretty much everywhere. Believe it or not most of it isn't actually in the way though so this doesn't seem to be a bad thing. Until....
I realize that there is literally NOTHING on the shelves...at all. I've been in the store plenty of times after work on Friday and haven't had any problems. Is there a huge rush or something from 6-11 on Friday nights that I didn't know about? No cat food, no sausage links....and when I say none I'm talking a whole brand not there....every variety and type of that brand. Craziness. Guess I add a few more things to my list for tomorrow...
Now that I've found the things I could find on the shelves it's time to check out...one line....and a cashier that's less than happy to be working the night shift. A long wait but it's not really a big deal since I'm not in a huge hurry. Besides, I get to watch in amusement as the customers in front of me load up their items.
The woman in front of me - 30 lean cuisine dinners....nothing else
The man in front of her - 10 boxes of strawberries, 3 cans of whipped cream....3 potatoes and an onion??
I guess people buy strange things at midnight.
Finally it's my turn. The casher rings my order in and we bag it, I've run my credit card and she's just staring at me...."umm, I think maybe you have to do something on your end", I say. She pushes a button and voila.
A quick stop at the ATM and I'm off. I did get a 10cent gas coupon so that was at least a bonus :)
