Just a simple tutorial about manga coloring and how I do it. I rarely use the 'magic wand tool' because I find it quite annoying. I use a tablet instead and I find I get much better results. Plus I'm also quite fast with it. ^^
I use Photoshop 6.0, it's quite old so I'm pretty sure it's translatable.

Gakuto is so cute...isn't he?
1) Take your base (mine is from
etc_icons) and set the mode to RGB color
2) Since we're coloring manga, I like to use a reference picture. Mine's right
here. Use the eyedropper tool to select Gakuto's hair. Since his hair is a bit dark, I adjusted the color to a much lighter tone. Now we can start coloring!
3) Hold on. Gakuto's hair is all black. What do we do?
Well, I like to make a new layer and set it to screen at 100%. Different colors may have different settings so play around with it. Now we can begin coloring!
HEYY IT'S BUNTA!
4) Now for his eyes. I make a new layer and set it to overlay at 100% because there are some gray tones that can help me with shading. I use a rather dark blue (#003471) and start to color his eyes.
5) Now it's skin time! Since there is no black or gray on Gakuto's skin, I make a new layer and set it to multiply at 100%. I use the eyedropper tool to get the tone of his skin and I start coloring his skin. For his mouth, I make a new layer and set it to multiply and color it pink
6) Since Hyoutei uniforms are brown, I make a new layer and set it to multiply at 100% and I start coloring his uniform
Yay! You're officially done with this tutorial. Now you can add whatever jazz you like :D
