CHAPTER ONE
He pulled his hoodie low over his eyes. Being recognized here would do him and his partner for the evening no good. Too bad his car had broken down that morning. It was still at the mechanic’s, or he would not have to wait for a taxi on the road. He felt utterly exposed. On his own, it would not be a big deal, but tonight he was not alone. For once, the both of them had the same night off. He was not going to let an opportunity pass him by this easily. His unfulfilled love was not that selfless, after all.
A small hand tugged at his hoodie and he turned his face in his companion’s direction. “Jin, we can just take the train. It would be so much easier!” his long-time ‘friend’ whispered in his ear. Thank God he had on his sunglasses or he would not be able to look into those big, beautiful eyes without giving away the pain and frustration he felt.
“Jin?” Kazuya asked uncertainly.
“Ah, sorry, I just zoned out. Don’t worry, there’ll be a taxi soon. And we don’t want to trouble people in the subway if someone recognizes us. It’s easier to lose papparats this way. Just wait, okay?” he replied with an easygoing smile.
“Well, okay, if you say so,” replied a pouting Kazuya Kamenashi. Waiting was not one of his greatest virtues, except at work. He was professionalism personified when he worked.
Both the pout and his impatience made Jin smile inside, thinking, Oh he’s so cute, and then another pang as he realized, once again, that this man would never be his. He would never look at him in that way, never love him that way. And it was normal to be like that. After all, they were both male, coworkers and band mates. It would be stranger if Kazuya liked him back.
Jin consoled himself with the thought that Kazuya was probably much happier this way, pursuing his dreams and breaking hearts left and right. He had always been the greatest diva in their Japanese pop group KAT-TUN. Jin himself loved music, he loved performing, he loved being in the limelight, and most of all he loved being next to Kazuya more than anyone else. He knew they were called Akame and that it annoyed Kazu, so he did his best never to act like he liked it. Secretly, he wished that it would turn into reality, that Kazu would someday look at him with those lustful eyes and actually mean it. For now, he would just have to live with a few stolen moments alone and the occasional drinking party.
“Hey, Jin, I see a taxi!” Kazuya excitedly said, clutching at Jin’s shoulder. Jin tried not to shudder from the pleasure of being touched by Kazu. He held himself in check and said, “Yeah, you’re right, why don’t you flag him down Kazu.”
“Okay!” Kazuya, being his hyper self, exclaimed like a grade-schooler seeing a taxi for the first time. Who would believe this was the same guy that entranced people all over the world with a single sexy wink? It seemed like travelling all over the world and being all but suffocated by female attention had yet to take away that innate innocence that he loved about Kazuya.
Kazuya flagged down the taxi in a hurry, then motioned for Jin to follow him into the taxi now parked at the crowded sidewalk . Jin got in and closed the door behind him, trying not to shiver as his body pressed close to Kazuya. This was bad. What if he did something he shouldn’t? Calm down Jin, he coached himself over and over again. It was not an easy task to accomplish with the smell that was Kazuya wafting over to him, the person himself less than six inches away from him and oh so easy to grab and take- No! He had promised himself he would never do that! He would rather die than hurt his precious, beautiful Turtle.
Restraining himself, he asked through clenched teeth, “Mind dropping me off first? I need a shower bad.”
“Sure, I don’t mind. Is it okay if I stay over too? I am so sleepy and hungry and I don’t want to go home tonight. It’s a mess and I don’t feel like cleaning up. You have a spare room right. Mind if I crash there tonight?” Kazuya chattered at him like a humming bird with that hoarse, beautiful voice of his.
He almost groaned from wanting to hear that voice under him as he ravished- NO!
What he said out loud was, “Sure, I don’t mind,” as nonchalantly as possible, though it was killing him. There went another night of sleep. There was no way he was going to be able to sleep tonight. A thought struck him suddenly. “But I have one condition,” he told Kazuya, still through clenched teeth and closed eyes.
“Hmm? What, what, what is it???” Kazuya replied, characteristically concerned.
“Umm…you have to lock your door. You just have to, definitely! If you can’t then I won’t let you stay,” he replied, sounding more anxious than he had meant to. Crap! His mask was slipping.
“Oh, okay, but why?” Kazuya inquired, looking puzzled.
“It doesn’t matter why, just lock it okay?” he said, unable to keep the irritation out of his voice.
“Well, okay, you don’t have to get so mad about it,” Kazuya pouted.
“Yeah, yeah, sorry okay. I’m just tired,” Jin replied, covering up his painful lust with irritation. Yeah, it was easier to deal with things when he was irritated and angry. Good, this would help him keep his hands off what was not his to touch. God help him if he couldn’t.
“We’re here,” said the discreet driver from the front.
“Ah, thanks, here,” Jin handed the man some money and got out, making a beeline for the entrance to his building. To hell with the paparazzi. They could take whatever pictures they wanted to tonight. He didn’t care anymore. He was sick of it all.
Kazuya called from behind, “Hey wait up Jin! Don’t go so fast,” he came huffing up to Jin.
“Sorry,” Jin mumbled, as he nodded at the guard. He kept his face blank, a study in impersonal professionalism.
“Hey, if you didn’t want me to come, you should have just said so you know,” the ever-sensitive Kazuya said, mistaking Jin’s face for one of resentment.
Jin forced himself to stay calm and reply evenly, “You’re wrong, it’s not like that. I told you I don’t mind. I’m just really tired today, sorry.”
Kazuya studied him with those intense eyes, squinted in suspicion now. “Are you sure?” he asked.
“Yeah, Kazu, I’m sure. Geez. Let’s just get some food and sleep okay?” Jin replied, exasperated. He hated being psychoanalyzed, especially by the one person he did not want analyzing him at all.
“Okay, whatever,” Kazuya said, now in an equally sour mood. What was Jin’s problem? Why did he have to act like this? Kazuya pouted to himself as he walked out of the elevator and into the luxurious lobby on the 10th floor of the building they had entered. The lobby led to Jin’s luxurious two-bedroom apartment. This guy really knows how to live it up, Kazuya thought. Oh well, not like it had anything to do with him, but for some reason, he found it irritating. Everything was black and white, with a few cool shades of blue and purple thrown in. There was the rare red here and there. It was a testament to Jin’s bachelorhood. For some reason, this irritated Kazuya further.
“Well, use whatever you need or want. Mi casa es su casa,” Jin broke into his reverie, taking off his hoodie and shoes in one fluid motion. Kazuya wondered how he managed to do that and look so sexy instead of clumsy the way he himself would if he tried a move like that; Jin's fluidity always reminded him of a black panther on a hunt and always struck him anew, no matter how many times he saw it.
“Mi…what?” Kazuya asked, confused.
“It means my home is your home, Kazu,” Jin smiled at him, strain and tiredness showing up in his eyes. “Sorry for earlier, I just need to sleep. I’m going to take a bath. There’s another bath in the room over there. Anything else you need, the kitchen, the lounge and that closet in your room will have. If you can’t find something, just mail me and ask okay? And remember to lock your door before you sleep. Good night,” the normally quiet Jin said to him quickly, and with a wave and a brush of his hand over Kazuya’s head, disappeared into his own room, closing the door behind him.
Kazuya stood alone in the big lounge, eerily silent and almost…alive. For the first time, he realized that Jin was always here, alone. Well, that was an interesting and disturbing thought. He shook his head to get rid of these thoughts. He was being ridiculous. Of course Jin lived his own way, doing what he wanted to, just like he always had. It was late so Kazuya decided he was going to go shower and maybe browse a few TV channels on the huge TV he could see in his ‘guest’ room. And he would see about ordering some food - Jin hadn’t eaten yet either right? So he would surprise Jin! He delightedly pulled up some take out restaurant numbers in his phone and called one. Good, now he would be fresh and ready to eat by the time the food got here.
Satisfied, a smiling Kazuya went into the guest room, locked the door behind him as he had been requested, surveyed his surroundings and went straight into the bathroom. The rest could wait.
