I've looked at clouds from both sides now

I'm having a good time; the commute is only occasionally overwhelming.

So my opposite number (or perhaps complementary number?) E, the education officer, is really brilliant. We seem to be quite similar in some good ways. And we definitely spend a lot of time ramping up each other's excitement about various ideas for archival outreach. If you cannot think how archival outreach would be exciting then wait. Just wait. I can't tell the internet much yet. Just wait.

It's lovely; I feel as though Hull is going to get a brilliant gift and I'm helping make it.

The Australian has left for a different half of the world. In his present demisphere it is summer! In my half globe it is deep winter. Or - it is in West Yorkshire at any rate. As the train takes me towards Hull the snow disappears and the landscape becomes, if not quite spring-like then, reasonable at least. Reasonable in that there are remarkably less comedy-half-falls as I try to negotiate hills covered in half-melted then re-frozen snow. That is to say in a less confusing sentence: Hull has had hardly any snow and Leeds has had lots.

I made a commuter-friend. He makes the journeys from Leeds to Hull and back again at the same time as me most days. He talks a great deal and very rapidly. He reminds me of my wee nephew, of whom I haven't told the internet much for a while. My nephew opens his eyes and in his first awake breath begins talking. He doesn't stop 'til he's asleep again. And even then. Sometimes if my nephew doesn't have anything to say, he'll just talk nonsense instead. It is jaw-dropping to witness. Seriously.

So anyway my commuter-friend isn't quite that verbose, but that is probably the effect of the early mornings and late evenings plus the degenerating effects of being an adult. He's pretty cool. I now know a great deal about his wife, his life and his travels. I explained roller derby to Commuter this evening. He's going to bring his wife to see us play.

Roller derby has been excellent lately. I missed three practices (a Tuesday, a Sunday then another Tuesday) and it felt as though I had not skated in months. My feet were wriggling to get into my skates and my mind couldn't stop daydreaming about cross-overs and blocking innocent pedestrians as I've been walking around the past few weeks. I don't regret missing the Sunday really as the time was well spent with the Antipodean. But - oh wow - to be on skates again last Sunday? My face and my grin were inseparable. This Tuesday slightly less enjoyable, but that's my own fault for not managing my body too well. I get over-whelmed pretty easily, and rushing around from 6am 'til whenever then going skating without eating hardly anything all day predictably caused a mini-meltdown. I managed to avoid panic attack this time and just panted at the side of the roller rink feeling useless instead.

Hey, I guess there'll be another post this month. 'Bye.
