I went to Barcelona for 10 days. I saw a heap of amazing bands. I hung out with Team Awesome aka Team Emotional Cripple aka Team D00d aka The Dead Inside Crew. We buffered the festival with the following journey: got the Eurostar to Paris, spent some time in Paris and then caught the sleeper train to Barcelona and vice versa. We buffered the festival with daytrips and partying harder than the Spanish, I mean Catalan. We re-set our body clocks to the correct time frame of 3pm to 9am. This meant that on at least one occasion we nearly missed out on dinner as we set out to find food at half past midnight and all the kitchens in the city of Barcelona were shut, with the notable exception of a pizza and falafel place. Andrzej Lukowski has pictures on his facebook. He will hopefully also write about our funtimes in his blog. When he does so I will provide a link, the necessary retractions, disclaimers and supplementary tales of adventures.
So, to the meat and bones of my livejournal: Leeds and London adventures and emodiary check-ins.
In reverse order.
I just watched 'When Harry Met Sally'. I saw the next 10 years of my life as an emotional cripple before my eyes, without the turning out alright ending. This may sound -negi (and at the very least retro) but to me I feel a mixture of relief, confusion, expectation, resignation, +posi, oh you know all that good poly-ambivalent stuff that reminds you that you're a living person after all.
In London I finally went to a gig that met with my expectations. It was a Vice magazine launch party and so rammed with Shoreditch twats. I felt a little less than shoreditch-cool, but then discovered my fake ray bans in my bag so the loserliness of wearing them restored my ability to hold my head up high with the Kids. The bands were ace. I cannot remember the name of the first band on, but the singer was also the drummer and screamed a lot. The second band were Awesome Colour (who I see are playing tonight in Leeds! Very good! I can't go out tonight though, boo). Oh I spelt their name wrong, sorry, Awesome Color. At first I thought that they sounded like Green Day but my friend assures me that they sound like the Stooges. HEALTH were headlining. I like them quite a lot. One friend disagrees with me, but probably his ears are broken, sometimes that happens.
Leeds. Last night I went to see G's art exhibition at Reliance. I like G's art a lot a lot a lot and will buy some prints if they don't run out before I ask him about it. Leeds friends from back in the day were out in force. This was all very good, I had some lovely chats and am now very much looking forward to being here every night. To which end: job application forms.
