"Eyeliner of the Gods" by Katie Maxwell

Title: Eyeliner of the Gods
Author: Katie Maxwell
My Grade: C-

Jan has issues. Along with having no desire to be in Egypt, she has the hots for a gorgeous boy named Seth who everyone is convinced is evil-incarnate. Then there's the snobby Chloe who appears to have her eyes on Seth too, the bitch. Meanwhile, Jan can't get rid of a bracelet she's sure is cursed.

I gave up on Katie Maxwell's "Emily" series as I decided I couldn't be arsed to give a damn what happened in the end. BUT, I decided to read this book as I thought the idea was kind of cute. In Eyeliner of the Gods, Maxwell writes from the point of view of January James while author, Naomi Nash wrote a companion book featuring Jan's rival, Chloe Bryce. Both books are set in Egypt on a month-long trip where high school students study and help work at the (fictional) Valley of the Servitors.

I wasn't expecting to love this book very much, and well... I didn't really. Again, it's because I'm not keen on how Maxwell presents her main characters. Why oh why does she have to make them so damn shallow and ditzy? I think I've had my fill of Katie Maxwell. I don't think I'll be reading anymore of her YA stuff. I'm going to give one of her adult romances (written under Katie MacAlister) a shot because people keep saying they're enjoyable enough. But, if I have the same feelings about those, then I won't bother with her anymore period.
