Title: The Year My Life Went Down the Loo
Author: Katie Maxwell
My Grade: B+

This is the first in a new series very much in the same vain as the Georgia Nicolson books. The narrator is a 16 year old American girl named Emily, who's family moves to England for a year. The story is told through (really, really long) emails she sends to her best friend Dru, back in Seattle. I find Emily slightly more likeable than Georgia but that could be because she is older and more mature. Mind you, not a whole lot more mature... she did refer to people as "poophead" a bit too much, although I imagine if this book wasn't geared to teenagers the more realistic "shithead" would have been in it's place, haha. Emily is determined to hate England when she first arrives, that includes the town she live in, the school she attends, and the house her family is staying at. Funny side-notes include Emily being utterly convinced her underwear drawer is haunted. This girl is kind of a fuck-up who manages to get into one embarrassing disaster after another... each fiasco she's certain will be the end of her life as she knows it. But the most frustrating thing for me was how she meets 3 guys who are all complete babes and naturally, she falls for the biggest jerk of the trio. Typical! Overall, I enjoyed this book.
