Title:
Sword of DarknessAuthor: Kinley MacGregor
Final Thought: Decent
Kinley MacGregor a.k.a. Sherrilyn Kenyon who's Dark-Hunter series I'm addicted to, puts a whole new spin on the King Arthur legend. I'm not sure if it's totally successful though and I'll get to that later.
Kerrigan is the new king of Camelot after Morgen le Fey takes over. But this Camelot is not what it was when King Arthur reigned. As Morgen attempts to retrieve all 13 sacred objects that Pemerlin Emrys gave Arthur, the new (and female) Merlin back in Avalon is trying to prevent this from happening. When a young peasant girl named Seren becomes Kerrigan and Morgen's prisoner, things look very grim. Seren is destined to be the mother of the future Merlin and Morgen needs that child to get what she wants. And as evil as he wants to believe he is Kerrigan is starting to have an attachment to the young woman, strong enough to want to save her and her unborn child.
Due to an ability to travel through time, many characters picked up modern day sayings, objects, etc. I found it off-putting with the pop culture references not to mention a gargoyle-like creature who talked like a New York City cab driver. I think the story could have been more effective if she kept the characters behaving and speaking from their own time. That was my biggest complaint, otherwise I kind of enjoyed this book.
