"Nnn. What is it, Nowaki?" Click. Hiroki shot up from his bed at the sound. He swept his furious gaze over his surroundings, surveying it. He found the target of his fury sitting cross-legged on his bed, holding a cell phone. His anger was not blunted by the early hour one bit; rather, the disruption of his sleep made his anger exponentially more potent. "Gimme that!" he yelled, throwing his weight across the bed and onto Nowaki. Nowaki merely laughed in reply, holding the cell phone far out of Hiroki's reach.
"Good morning to you, too, Hiro-san. It's good to see you so energetic at this time." Hiroki grew even redder at the implication, in both anger and embarrasment.
"Just gimme the goddamned phone! I didn't give it to you so you can blackmail me with pictures of my sleeping face!" He didn't sincerely believe that Nowaki would do such a thing, but it was the first reason he could think of to get the younger man to delete the picture. However, Nowaki's face straightened at the accusation and the fear that somehow his dear Hiro-san did not trust him as much as he believed.
"I understand. But would you give me this one picture of you to keep close by me?" Along with the twenty he had in his wallet. Hiroki didn't have to know about that. As Hiroki digested that, his anger subsided, and he rolled off of Nowaki.
"Alright. You can keep that one picture. But don't set it as your wallpaper or anything, and don't let anyone else see it. Got that?"
"Yes, sir."
Nowaki smiled as he closed his phone after checking the hours of work left for the umpteenth time. He didn't particularly hate his job, but he could hardly wait to be with his dear Hiro-san again, either. Seeing Hiroki's gentle sleeping face each time was a plus. Unbekownst to Hiroki, Nowaki still set that one particular picture as the wallpaper for his cellphone, but because of that picture, Nowaki and his new cell phone became inseparable.
When it comes to technology, Nowaki is functional on the most basic level. He wasn't particularly concerned with its games or its ringtones, but the picture-taking function fascinated him. Compared to schoolgirls, his text messaging speed was that of a snail, but that didn't matter. Hiroki rarely ever texted, and when he did, a short reply such as "OK" would usually suffice. The phone itself wasn't particularly fancy; it came with all the usual bells and whistles, but it was also free. What excited Nowaki about his cell phone, however, was the implications it brought.
Most importantly, it was given to him by Hiroki. Nowaki had never bothered to get a cell phone before, as most of the people he had daily contact with never needed to reach him outside of work or school. Hiroki is usually not one to say exactly what's on his mind, especially regarding their relationship. Giving Nowaki a cell phone said a lot. It said to him, "You're important to me. I want to be able to talk to you, whenever, wherever. If you need me, you can reach me in a heartbeat." It also told him that Hiroki's fear of him leaving was still there. It was a leash of sorts, one what Nowaki would happily wear, if it meant security for the other in their relationship. That security was the greatest part of it all. The picture-taking function was just a sweet bonus.
Just then, the phone beeped, notifying him that he had recieved a text message. It was from Hiroki. "Staying late. Eat without me." it said. The other end wasn't so good at texting, either, but it was sufficent. Nowaki's response was one that he could do blindfolded. "OK." After it was registered as sent, and he decided he had time to figure out a longer message, he added, "What do you want for dinner?" Hiroki's response came several minutes later. It was short, but it said volumes to Nowaki. It read simply, "You."
