Like I once said, there is SO MUCH animosity in band. All of that internal angst and disfunction boiling underneath...then it just EXPLODES. Like on a humid band practice day - so not a good time to lose control. It takes a real pro to take that much pressure.
I'm glad I'm not a section leader.
Seriously, I've been hearing comments from people in every section about their leaders...and it isn't anything positive. But that's something you just have to sacrifice to being a leader. I believe Mr. Boyd explained that at the beginning of the year. For people to be at the peak, there have to be others supporting from below (*GASP!* The Law of Conservation!). The key word is SUPPORT, people! Or as my latest fortune cookie states, "The ladder is crowded at the bottom. There is more room on top."
And some bandos aren't happy. Band isn't fun anymore. It's now a dictatorship. If you step out of line (even literally), you get CRUSHED. This is no longer marching band, my friend! Oh, no-! This is MADNESS! A lot of people have been saying that they want to quit band.
..So do I. Only it's too late now.
Late for band practice today, I was, though. Although not too late. I went to meeting for Environmental Club. I mean, band is time, but please, it's not all of my time. Now I know that sounds really self-centered, and in fact, it is. If you're in band, you're making a full-time commitment. You're there to have fun, but not just to fool around. And realizing that now, I've realized that I've made a very, very big mistake.
Not going on that band trip. I think I'll sit this one out with the family this Thanksgiving. (Well, unless Kyle and Ebony plan to go.)
I don't plan to do band in college, anyway. Like an architect will have time to play clarinet. Pii-shaah.
