He had started DDS to find a successor to carry out his work. He never really expected to find one that matched all his expectations, after all no one could be like Satoru. However he never knew that starting DDS would bring one boy closer to the Father he didn’t know he knew, and would save another boy from the hell he had been born into.
Morihiko Dan had started the Dan Detective School or DDS for short after his partner, friend, and successor had been killed. That man was Renjou Satoru. He had needed someone to carry out his legacy after all he was the only private detective allowed to carry a gun in Japan.
Seven years after Satoru’s death, many hopefuls took the yearly entrance exam for DDS. It was during that exam that he had begun to find hopefuls to be his successor. He created the Q class to see if they had what it took. Three of them he wasn’t quite sure of, but the children worked well as a team and had there own strengths so he let them into class Q. The other two were ones that showed huge potential.
Meiosis started to surface again, and he feared for the childrens’ lives. Meiosis had killed Satoru, and he wouldn’t be able to live with himself if the killed the children on his watch. Unfortunately they were too determined to defeat them, and not to back down, well all except one. Ryuu pleaded his friends to stop, but they wouldn’t listen. He himself had found that odd. He later found out the Ryuu was the great grandson of King Hades, and destined to be the heir. Well when the others found out that made them even more determined to stop Meiosis, especially Kyuu.
It was during the battle against Meiosis that he finally found out why Kyuu had remained him so much of Satoru. He was actually quite ashamed at how it had turned out. Meiosis had figured out the boy’s parentage and used it to their advantage. They had figured out the Renjou Satoru was Kyuu’s father, and neither Kyuu nor himself had know. He felt foolish not being able to recognize his friend’s only child, after all the boy looked so much like him and acted like him. Meiosis had tried to turn Kyuu against them by filling his head with lies and self-doubt. Ryuu came to the rescue and saved the boy, and strengthen his resolve.
When the battle finally ended he was proud to say that all of Q class had survived. Ryuu was free from a cursed heritage, and Kyuu could be found in the graveyard talking to the gravestone of Satoru. Although Kyuu knew that Satoru was his father he still preferred to call him by Oji-san, just like he had done so many years ago. He said it just felt right. He told his father gravestone everything, about his latest case, or about what he had done that day.
The day came when he had to choose his successor, and it was hard on him. He had come to love the Q class as a whole, much more than he had expected when he had started out. He finally decided to name Q class as a whole his successor, after all five head are always better than one.
