Yamada opened his eyes. He felt a soft head on him. He got up dazed and pushed her aside gently. Feeling sore he looked up and jolted. A boy stood there watching him. The sun was shining dimly. The grocery store in front had just opened. The boy kept staring at Yamada. He was holding a pop sickle which by the way was melting. “Neechan, daijobu?” the boy let out in concern. Yamada touched by the boy’s question stood up and ran to the boy. He pulled out a tissue and wrapped it around the bottom of the pop sickle to prevent it from melting further.
“Un...daijobu....demo anata no aisukurimu ....well...it’s half melted.”
The boy looked at it. “Oh....un...I didn’t notice.....urm....nesan.....daijobu?” the boy asked again now referring to the person behind Ryosuke. Yamada turned around and stared for the first time at the person who had crashed into his dramatic run from the stadium. She was massaging her forehead and eventually looked up at them when the question arose. Pushing her deep black hair aside, she smiled gently. “Un....daijobu....arigatou....ototo-san...”
The boy smiled broadly and looked once again at his pop sickle only to realise it had completely melted. Yamada laughed out loud. “Kawai ne ototo-san, come I’ll buy you another one....”
When the boy was on his way smiling broadly at the amount of pop sickles in his hand, Ryosuke took a good look at his companion. She stood in the corner lost in thoughts.
“Ano....”
She looked up. Yamada stared. Her eyes. They were....double? Their colour. It was beautiful. Like a mixture of, sea green and deep blue.
At once the weakly girl went into a bow. “Hontoni gomennasai, for last night. You caught me. I mean...more like...i crashed into you. Sorry. Really. I didn’t mean to do that. I was just.....urm...”
“Ie ie...” Yamada said now realising his body was brutally bruised. “I should’ve been more careful, watashi mo, gomennasai.”
She smiled widely. Wow. Yamada breathed in deeply. Her wide smile brought out those colours even more. “Suteki.....” his heart whispered. Like all of a sudden, the intense pressure just flew away. The tension, the worries the troubles. All gone.
“If you don’t mind ne, what exactly were you up to last night?” she asked gently. Yamada looked up
“Running away” he whispered. And then it hit him.
“Oh no.....the concert party. I ran. Yappa!” he let out. She stared “You came from the centre of Tokyo? You ran for almost an hour?”
Yamada looked around. For sure this was not Tokyo. More like a suburb. He had run so far in vain thoughts the previous night. “I have to get back....”
She nodded and pointed at the train station not far. “It will take you straight to the heart of Tokyo... I mean the city area”
He nodded in thanks then stopped and turned around. “Can I ask you something?”
She nodded. “What were you doing last night?”
She smiled again with a slight pinkish tinge in her cheeks.
“.......Running away.....”
Yamada’s face went blank and then....a wide smile appeared.
“Kawai...” she breathed smiling at Ryosuke’s admirable grin. Ryosuke took one last look at her.
“Sayonara.....utsukushi san...”
“Eh???....Nande??......” She let out shocked blushing, as Yamada ran in full speed towards the train station.
