Myth - Chapter 18 (part 2)

I’ve never thought that the stomach of a monster could be so warm and nice. It feels like being on a cloud.

Maybe that’s because I’m on a cloud? After all I’m dead even though I’ve never really believed in Heaven, and I don’t think angel’s wings would look great on me (that’s because of my shoulders).

I open my eyes slowly and the first thing that hits my brain is the lack of pain. During the fight with Echidna I was badly hurt and being eaten would hurt too so there’s only one explanation: I’m really dead.

The second thing that I notice is the bright light around me, and even though I cover my eyes with my hand, the light becomes more and more shiny. Actually that’s because my hand shines.

I sit up and watch around me. As I thought I’m on a cloud; everything is white and fluffy.

“Sleeping Ugly is finally awake.” This voice…

I turn around quickly, not believing my ears. “Kazu?!” I watch him smirk at me.

Not only Kazu but all my friends are here as well. Just like me they’re shining but I don’t see any wings or halo. I understand that Masaki and Satoshi have become angels because they’re too nice to hurt someone. Jun as well, he’s so kind and he’s truly an angel. I had some doubts about me but when it concerns Kazu I don’t think he deserves his wings; with all his pranks he’s much more like a little demon.

“Sho, can you just stop thinking weird things for a minute?” Jun laughs “Even though I agree with you about Kazunari.”

“Hey! What is he thinking?” Kazunari pouts.

“A-are we dead?” I ask finally as I stand up.

“Technically, yes.” I hear a female voice behind me. I turn around and see our parents are all here.

“What do you mean by technically, and more particularly why are we shining like this?” Masaki asks, looking and touching his own body.

“The Oracle says that the five demigods will be killed by Echidna,” Morpheus explains while smiling softly.

So we’re really dead.

“But it also predicts they will win against that creature,” Artemis adds.

How is that possible if we’re dead?

“Don’t you remember the last moment before everything became dark, Sho?” my mom asks slowly.

“The bright light?” I still don’t understand her point.

“Your second power, my son,” she smiles tenderly.

What does that mean? Am I some kind of a glowworm?

“Lightning, idiot!” Athena rolls her eyes and sighs before hitting the back of my head.

Huh?

“Wow! That’s so cool!” Masaki chirps.

I turn to face Jun again. Is it what he meant when he asked me to not give up?

“I’ve read Satoshi’s mind before. Strangely he has a lot to think about you know,” he glances at Satoshi who blushes slightly. “I knew you would do something to win the fight even though I didn’t know what exactly.” He comes closer and strokes my cheek lovingly.

I lean into his embrace, enjoying that feeling.

“Your emotions about the loss of your friends were stronger than anything, and it had enough power to defeat Echidna,” Aphrodite explains at her turn.

Jun pecks my lips and laughs softly as he whispers into my ear. “Now I understand why our parents were embarrassed when they talked about your second power. Please, promise me that you’ll use it every time we have sex. I find it very sexy.” He then bites my ear lobe.

This is my turn to blush hard. I didn’t know it was me. I don’t even know how to control this power! Emotions are something really hard to control.

“Well this is great and all but what now? I mean we’re dead and so is Echidna. I don’t really think it’s a happy ending,” Kazunari says out of the blue.

Our parents nod and smile fondly at us. Something inside me tells me that it’s not really over.

“By defeating the Mother of the Creatures at any cost, we, the Gods of Mount Olympus, will reward you,” a deep voice comes suddenly, and its owner is none other than Zeus himself.

We bow immediately in front of him. In fact we’re not in Heaven (just as I thought!) but on Mount Olympus (a ridiculous name if I’m honest because this is anything but a mount.) He explains to us that he can grant one, and one only, wish to us. While Jun, Satoshi, Masaki and I seem to already know what we want the most, Kazunari on the other hand seems to have lost his casual aura and is more serious, even a bit embarrassed.

“I know this is selfish but…” He starts to say in a low voice, “there isn’t any chance to make someone live again, right?”

Poor Kazunari, even though he’s pretending the opposite he still thinks about Ariadne. He must really love her.

Zeus looks at Kazunari sadly and rests a hand on his shoulder. “My boy, I’m Zeus, not Hades. I don’t have any rights over the people who are already dead.”

Kazunari lowers his head and bites his bottom lip. “Just wanted to try.” He smiles bitterly as he joins us.

“If you can’t give life back, then there is no possibility for us to be back in our world?” Satoshi says quietly.

“In your case this is different,” Athena starts to explain. “You’re half human and half god. It is time to make a choice. You can leave your human life and start to live with us as gods.”

“Or,” Aphrodite adds, “You can choose to give up on your god life and keep your human life in your world.”

It is useless to say that we all have the same idea. After all, we did all of it to be back in our world. Start our usual lives all over again. The smiles on our faces are a mix between relief and happiness.

“So,” Zeus asks with a kind smile. “Have you made your choice?”

We glance at each other before replying firmly. “Yes!”

**

Strangely it seems like the time in our world had stopped when we were in the other world. We came back into the forest, just in front of the lake where the Stymphalian birds attacked us, though they’re not here anymore. It seems like the Oracle was right; after defeating Echidna, the monsters from both worlds aren’t after us anymore.

“Cerynitis!” Masaki shouts happily as he runs towards his pet, hugging it tightly.

We’re not only welcomed by our pets but also by our parents, once again. They stare at us with warm and kind smiles. Satoshi and his father are the first ones to make a move, hugging each other strongly.

“I was right,” Satoshi says against his father’s chest. “It was a premonition in the end.”

Morpheus laughs loudly and strokes Satoshi’s hair. “Yes, but I was right as well; it wasn’t the end.”

On their right, Masaki and Artemis are also sharing a private moment. “M-mom! You’re hurting me! Ca-can’t br-breathe!” Masaki has a hard time speaking as his mother hugs him strongly while crying.

The Goddess breaks the hug a bit and stares at Masaki’s eyes. “I- I was so scared! I don’t want my dear little boy to be hurt, that’s all,” she sobs before crying loudly again, and this time followed by Masaki.

Not far away stands Kazunari and his father. Kazu isn’t as happy as the rest of us, which is something I can understand.

“Don’t think about the past. You’re alive, that’s more important to me,” Hermes tries to cheer his son with a sad smile.

“I know…it will take time, but one day I’ll forget. This is the first time I've felt something like that,” Kazu explains, rubbing the tip of his nose.

I glance at Jun and Aphrodite; they seem to be the most normal in our group.

“Handsome and brave. I’m so proud,” she says tenderly.

“Don’t talk like that, you’re embarrassing me,” Jun blushes slightly.

I watch them sharing a private moment, a bit jealous. I can’t say that my mother and I are as close as my other friends are with their parents.

Suddenly I feel a hand on each shoulder, gripping me strongly. I turn around and see my mother, smiling shyly at me.

“I feel so proud,” she whispers, caressing my cheek. “You’re exactly the definition of a great warrior: fierce, smart and loving.”

She looks at Jun and his mother. “I thought your love for him would ruin you, but even I can be wrong sometimes. He’s your greatest force. As long as you’re with him, you will be undefeatable.”

“Mom…” I whisper.

“This is the first time you've called me that using this kind of tone.” She kisses my forehead and hugs me strongly. I hug her back, happy to finally have her blessing.

**

A simple bed and the familiar walls of our rooms haven’t felt so good until now. Finally we come back into our rooms with a slight change. Satoshi and Masaki share my room while Jun and I share theirs. At first Jun didn't like the idea of leaving Kazu alone, but the latter said that it was better that way and he was glad to have the bathroom for him alone. Everything is back to normal. We're living the lives we had before everything started, forming a group of friends. Maybe we’re bound to each other a bit more now. However the room that was Masaki’s before is a bit different, with black holes and stains on the ceiling and the walls but this not my fault! Lightning is really hard to control, and I have to admit that Jun doesn’t really leave me the time to master it. Not that I complain.

After a few days of rest we start our classes again. Our classmates don’t even realize that we were away; it is as if nothing happened at all. We’re still the same as ever, even though Kazunari isn’t as talkative as he was and strangely Jun is less courted.

We stand up when our teacher enters the room. He hasn’t changed either, still late and in a hurry. We laugh as he trips over his chair and his stuff falls on the ground.

“Hmm please be quiet,” he asks softly, “I have an announcement.”

We don’t really care and speak amongst ourselves as he reorganizes his papers.

“Quiet please,” the teacher clears his throat and reads his papers again as someone opens the door.

“Ah just in time!” he smiles at the newcomer. Everyone in the class falls silent as the girl enters and stands near the teacher. Some guys whistle while our group freezes, and most particularly Kazunari.

“We will have a new classmate from now on. She’s Greek but speaks Japanese very well. Please be nice with, er…” The teacher looks for her name on his paper when the sound of a chair is heard.

Kazunari walks slowly towards the new student who smiles at him.

“Haha!” The teacher cheers victoriously; he must have found her name. “Minos. Ariadne Minos!”

Masaki looks at us, a huge smile plastered on his face.

“Is it really you?” Kazunari whispers so softly, his eyes never leaving the smiling face.

Her smile widens. “Hello, perverted boy.”

Kazunari chuckles and looks at us, it’s been a while since we’ve seen such a genuine smile. Then he faces her again and cups her face before kissing her passionately.

Again the time stops around us; except for the six of us, the rest of the class is frozen. Hermes appears in a cloud of golden dust, smiling knowingly.

Kazu breaks the kiss and turn around to face his father. “Did you have anything to do with this?” he asks.

“Well,” Hermes starts proudly, “There’s this secret Hades doesn’t want Persephone to know, and I might have promised him that she would never hear it from me if he did something for me in exchange.”

“Thank you,” Kazu whispers before hugging Ariadne again.

We watch this sweet scene, happy for our friend and also glad to see Ariadne again, when someone on the other side clears his throat to catch our attention. On the other side of the room stands a man (very good-looking) who seems a bit in a hurry.

“Ah right!” Hermes seems to remember. “I need your help by the way,” he smiles, embarrassed.

We glance at each other, not really liking that change of mood.

“I don’t know what it is,” Kazu says suddenly. He grabs Ariadne’s hand. “But you guys will tell me what it is about when I come back.” And before we have the time to react he runs from the classroom with Ariadne at lightning speed.

“That’s my son!” Hermes exclaims proudly.

The other man (judging by his appearance, he must be Apollo) rolls his eyes and sighs.

Hermes flies towards us. “You see there's this tiara that Apollo gave to Cyrene a long time ago, and it is possible that my other son, Pan has…”

We all sigh as we listen to Hermes’ excuses, knowing very well that our normal lives will never be as normal as we wish.

Note: So this is the end. I hope you enjoyed the whole story and that you're not disappointed by the end. Thank you very much for reading this story and commenting. It was hard for me sometimes but your kind words gave me the strengh to do my best, for that thank you very, very much.

I want to thank particularly astrangerenters for her work. She gave me precious advice (hopefully I'll remember all of it ^^") and did a wonderful job because sometimes my English really sucks. Thank you very much, it was great to work with you (even though it was also stressful because, damn, she's a wonderful author!)

It will take a bit time to post my next work (currently working on it) but I can only tell you that it won't be a multi-chapters (too hard for me >_<).

So on a last note, I will thank every one for their comments and the fact they've took the time to read this. I'm really proud of this AU because Mythology is a very interesting universe and I'll be glad if this little story had inspired some authors or if at least, some of you want to read Rick Riordan's work. (YAAAAY!! I CAN FINALLY READ THEM *cries from happiness* 8'D)
