stuff about design

First of all, let me start off by saying that I'm really glad I decided to stay at Mac. I know I'm not in the Multimedia program yet, but seeing as how York has been taking their sweet time resolving this strike, I'm glad that I'm here in Hamilton instead of wasting my time in Toronto. Not that I'm saying that I not happy to be here - I really am, especially meeting all these awesome people. ♥ :3

Anyway, most of you probably don't know this, but I had a personal domain that was still online during my first year. The reason I had that site up was because I decided to pursue web and graphic design as a hobby in my spare time and the domain was a result of a graphic resource site. One that I had hosted first on several different free web hosts before it was hosted on kupo-kupo.net. But a few months after my webhostess agreed to host my graphics site, her domain went offline and neither I nor the other hostees knew what happened. So after that, I decided to get my own domain (as a birthday present from my mom) and I continued my hobby there.

Unfortunately, it was during that time (during high school, if you could believe it) that school life really started to pick up and I didn't really have the time or energy to do design in my spare time anymore. From grade 10, my friends and I started getting really involved in school activities, whether it was organizing events for the Arts Council, working on the school play production, doing school work, or staying after school in the drama room to rehearse a presentation. I kept the domain online though, thinking that it would just be a long hiatus and the site would still do fairly well while I was gone, but of course, that wasn't the case.

Not only that, but because I was on such a long hiatus, I've noticed a lot of web designers that I knew before (that were around the same level as I was) continued to improve their skills and became much more creative. Meanwhile, I was stuck in a rut because I haven't really done any exploring or experimenting during my hiatus. So eventually, during my first year at Mac, I decided to just let my domain expire and pick it up again once I gain the inspiration to do so. This was also because I was hoping to have new work to show once I get into the multimedia program but because I haven't been able to get in yet, I haven't found the motivation and inspiration to start this hobby up again. On top of that, I now live away from my parents and am forced to learn how to take care of myself while keeping up with school work.

Well, actually, now that I have that all typed out, it sounds like a load of bullshit. I'm probably still just stuck in my rut and just too lazy to start up the project again because I don't know how this will go.

But lately, I've been revisiting old sites that I used to frequent and have been gaining motivation to start this up again. Whether this is enough motivation is arguable but I think the problem now is the time I have to prepare and how much distraction there is. Several things enter my mind right now that could easily tear me away from this project right now:

1) It's exam time.
2) I'm going to start playing RO again when exams finish and since there's a handful of people that's playing with me this time, I'm going to be pretty addicted to this game.
3) Christmas shopping.
4) Gift preparation.
5) Korea Night.
6) Possibly working at the restaurant during winter break. Godddd, I hope not.
7) Other things.

It sounds terrible, but I really wish I could gain enough motivation to do this instead of doing it half-assedly like I do with a lot of things in life, especially since I'm hoping to turn this hobby into a career in the future.
