Still so fascinating... John wondering about being enamored of a place and eventually " “I’ll not be late tonight,” he promised them before he walked across the room."
Sherlock takes care of his friends... in various way.
Waiting for the next, now...

When you wrote the story based on a selection of slash the image visuals, you included a wonderful one of a library. I think I've had in the back of my mind since then to try to have a beautiful library take an important role.

Thank you for following this. I hope I can bring it to a satisfactory conclusion. I have too many WIPs lingering about!

I think I'm becoming slightly infatuated with the library too *g* That, and it's gorgeous, half-seen occupants.

I love the dream-like quality in this part, and the way John is edging his way towards knowing.

Thank you for another lovely part - and sorry it's taken three days to comment. My internet connection is fragile at the moment.

*huge grin* A soothing place full of potential (I hope).

I am so sorry to hear that your internet is misbehaving, but if its constitution is delicate, perhaps it cannot help itself? (Makes me very tense when mine does that, delicate constitution or no!)

How'd the slap-dash coffee remedy work out?

How'd the slap-dash coffee remedy work out?

*g* Well, so far, no migraine to try it out on... but I'm drawing up lists of combinations of pills and coffee for when it does. Oh joy! And checking out other doctors in the area - try to look surprised *hg*

Another vote for the magical library/mind palace!

The more I think about this part, the sadder it seems. John's anger and grief over what seems increasingly a well-planned suicide attempt vs. his powerful desire to return to the Rare Book Library and (unknowingly) Sherlock. John and Sherlock have sex, but John is not fully present (can't be), and Sherlock is trying hard to balance his (new?) physical needs against his emotions. His replies to John's words suggest he feels deeply, yet early in this part he seems almost coldly clinical: "for the work". And he knows the price he might pay for this secrecy.

So, definitely a melancholy chapter!

"for the work" is a justification. Sherlock's trying to maintain his clinical detachment, but it's getting more and more difficult.

I don't seem to be able to avoid the melancholy; I'm consciously trying to temper it, but not succeeding. The acting of those final scenes has scarred me, I think.

I have no problem with the melancholy. It seems appropriate, given the situation Sherlock and John are in.

Here's a link to a graphic that shows Sherlock's eyes. And having him say "Wake up" to John -- well, I can imagine the OE series Sherlock saying that when he can finally reveal himself to John. Not that i'm asking you to do that; the words just struck me that way when I saw them in that context.

Great, dramatic graphics on that site. Thank you!

Imagining the reunion scene is more than challenging, but I could see "Wake up" being appropriate. It would go along with the fairy tale theme, but that was Moriarty's, which would make it grim, too. (Didn't intend the pun, but I'll leave it there!) Something not unrelated has been percolating in my mind, but it's still vague.

Want to get back to the C# Minor comments, too, but need to wake up more! ;-)

Thank you! It is very encouraging to have snared your interest! RL has been annoyingly inconvenient the last month or so, but I am hoping to be able to post the next installment in a couple weeks' time. :-)

The research continues... and so does the reason for having John there. Sherlock's need for him is developing interesting contours as it seems harder and harder to keep under control. And John is slowly gathering clues and starting to wonder.

Lovely, fluid descriptions, I love the way the library itself is taking on life. I can see the hands of the clock moving, the shadows creeping across the floor, young Sherlock running up and down the stairs--it's become a real character! It's clear why it draws everyone in the way it does too.

Huge grin at finding this here!

Yes, John has been apprenticing. He had a number of the skills anyway, just less developed and more narrowerly focused. My theory is that that is why he can appreciate Sherlock so much, as Lestrade can, because they know enough about the process to be impressed when it is so brilliantly and quickly done, the clues gathered with such a breadth of view.

I am joyous about your reaction to the library. I wanted to make it a key setting for Sherlock's youth, imbued with him and he with it. You may remember that I had a library in another story (the poor, unfinished Vortices). Although shaped differently and in a very different setting, it's the precursor to this one.

Hopefully, I can keep all the balls circling that I've launched in the air.

OMG, I just went to that site. The beauty, oh, the beauty. I'm stealing all of it, somehow. I've been to a few of them, but I want to go to many more. Thank you for that. I'll be going back later to gaze amazed. (The John Rylands one in Manchester - a cathedral of books - oh, oh, oh - and the little nook!) ♥ ♥

I read the exchange at muncle and will be on the alert for the announcement. Thank you for asking about it. It will be easier, I think, to have it on AO3.
