Character: Kyoraku Shunsui
Timeline: From when Aizen, Ichimaru, and Tousen betray Soul Society and leave for Hueco Mundo.
Personality: Laziness and flirtatious are the two adjectives one would immediately place upon Kyoraku upon first inspection. He has no problem calling a woman beautiful (sometimes even trying to get her drunk) just to get on her good side. Even if his advances prove unsuccessful he wont give up hope that he will one day make her his. In sharp contrast to his "never give up on woman" ideology, Kyoraku is one of the laziest people you'd ever meet. If he's not spending his free time chasing women, he's lazying around sleep or drinking sake. He doesn't like doing more than he has to in any given situation, whether he's serious or just brushing things off. If Kyoraku does, however, find himself motivated to do something other than flirt, you can catch him in the kitchen, cooking his favorite steamed buns that go so well with his sake or in his office writing romance novels.
Upon closer inspection, however, one would find that there is more than meets the eye with Kyoraku Shunsui. He is one of the most loyal, caring, compassionate people one could possibly meet. He prefers not to fight, he's never fraudulent with anyone, and he will do anything to help out a friend if they believe in what they are trying to achieve. As his long time teacher and father figure Genryusai Shigekuni Yamamoto believes, he is just a very honest person who has the innate ability to see others for who they truly are. Unlike most of his fellow Gotei 13 Captains, he is humble and doesn't exude the arrogance that a majority of them possess. He retains a certain level of humbleness wherever he goes, and is even courteous to his enemies.
Background: Not much is known about how he became a Captain of the Gotei 13 other than that he was the first, along with his fellow Captain and best friend Ukitake Juushiro to become a captain through General Yamamoto's Shinigami Academy. When we first get a glimpse of him, we see him lazing around, drinking sake and seemingly taking a nap, not really giving much of a thought to the ryoka who had just invaded Soul Society. When he is awoken by his Vice Captain, Ise Nanao, he is informed that one of the ryoka, Sado "Chad" Yasutora, has reached the 8th Division and has taken out a numerous amount of the soldiers.
When Kyoraku reaches Chad, he tries to the best of his ability to convince Chad to just stay calm and return to where he came from. This warning goes without being heeded. Chad seemingly doesn't want to do battle either and kindly asks Kyoraku to step out of the way and let him pass. Kyoraku with his honor and loyalty to the rules of Soul Society, cannot do that. Chad discovers that he has no choice and launches an attack, to which Kyoraku deflects with one arm. Chad continues with unsuccessful attack after unsuccessful attack directed toward the powerful captain. When Kyoraku gives yet another warning to Chad, also to which he doesn't listen, he decides to just wound him as opposed to murdering him.
At this time, while looking down at the body of the fallen Ryoka, his Vice Captain, Ise Nanao informs him that Captain of the 5th division, Aizen Sousuke has been murdered. This disturbing news seems to worry the captain and he orders Nanao not to finish Chad off, telling her that if it were one of the Ryoka who killed the captain, it would be best to keep him alive in case he were to have any information. He asks for members of the 4th division to be sent to heal Chad.
Not too long after, right before Rukia's set execution, Kyoraku would be found on a rooftop chewing on a blade of grass, relaxing as usual. When she asks him to hurry up and do something about it, he seems reluctant to do so, knowing that he will be the one to get into trouble with the Captain Commander. At the execution, he appears with his best friend Ukitake Juushiro and proceeds to destroy the Sokyoku (the execution weapon) using a crest and shield from the Shihouin clan.
While Soul Society is in a ruckus, fighting amongst each other and such, Ukitake rushes forward to try and protect one of his 3rd seat soldiers from Captain of the 2nd Division, Soifon. In a quick flash, General Yamamoto appears before him and tells them (Ukitake and Kyoraku) that they must be punished for what they have done to destroy the order of Soul Society. Accepting that there is nothing they could do to change their master's mind, they decide to take the fight elsewhere, fearing that they might do significant damage if they fight with so many lower ranking officers present. After they reach the empty area, Nanao collapses due to Yamamoto's spiritual pressure and Kyoraku uses shunpo to teleport her far away area so that she wont be damaged in the crossfire either. During this fight, they receive news from the 4th Division Vice Captain, that Aizen had in fact been a traitor, and all three rush to the Sokyoku grounds.
Abilities/Additional Notes: Kyoraku, like all other shinigami, is the owner of a Zanpakuto by the name of Katen Kyokotsu (Flower Heaven, Crazy Bone). It's abilities, which come off at first glance as wind based attacks, are in fact the ability to transform children's games into reality, making his attacks deadly, despite their game-like nature. When released, his two swords become a pair of large, heavily-curved, black Chinese scimitars with bright silver edges. The hilt of the swords retain the same shape and size as the unreleased counterpart. The only difference is that now a red tassel dangles from each.
Aside from his Zanpakuto and its abilities, Kyoraku possesses some nice talents including and are not limited to being a master of swordsmanship, he's a great tactician and strategist. He's able to perform Kidou, also known as demon arts, however this isn't his preferred method of attack. He's durable as well as fast.

Now I'm not going to get too much into where I am, I'll save that for another day. But I've found this great tea house and was wondering if there are any lovely ladies out there that would care to join me for a great time. I promise I wont bite.

Especially with all this work I have to do to try and get back to the Seireitei." He lie there in bed awake, eyes closed ears open for any alerts from Ukitake or Unohana as to what they're going to do now. Ever since he appeared in this new world with no way to get back in contact with Soul Society, his mind has been drifting deeper and deeper inside itself, causing him to not want to be bothered with others. Even his passion for finding attractive women was slowly escaping him. Something was different about this world. Something he couldn't quite put his finger on.
"BEEP BEEP!" The noise seemed to shake him out of his mind as he opened his eyes and rolled over on his side to check the PCD. Turns out it was just a low battery and nothing to be alarmed about. Looking up at the date, it appeared as if this were his first week in this new place. And what a week it had been. He let his weight shift back to his right side and just lie there on his back, looking up at the ceiling, awaiting an opportunity to get out of this place...
