Shower Trail

So Todd's (my former boss) birthday get together thingy was this weekend. A lot of fun, very interesting, but also rather tiring.

Saturday afternoon, I caught a ride down to Todd's house in Merced with Todd's brother, Matt. Matt and I had plenty to talk about, but it was still a bit strained. When Matt speaks, he just speaks slowly, which means you struggle to pay attention the entire time he's attempting to tell you something. The drive was long, but we arrived. The place Todd is living in now (while his ultra cool house is being built) is nice and on an open lot, although the house is kind of stretched out long ways, and no matter how good that looks from the exterior, I'm never going to like it in a house. So, I gorged myself on watermelon while we waited on Quico (coworker lab manager) and his wife, Sujei to arrive. For dinner, we went to 'The Firehouse' which was a pub built in the building, you guessed it, that the fire station used to be. Dinner was awesome, I had this yummy BBQ chicken pizza (but only ate half of it because it was the size of a large pizza and I thought it would be the size of a personal pizza) and bored everyone with astronomy talk. Many people attempted to get me to drink beer, but they never succeeded, ha ha. Later, Todd wanted to show us the 'happening' places in Merced so we went to this dingy little bar. Matt ordered me a cosmopolitan, which was rather yummy, so they finally suceeded in getting me to drink alcohol. We went back to Todd's house and talked late into the night, where they persuaded me to drink a raspberry smirnoff (sp?) which doesn't taste like alcohol at all, but rather, raspberry sprite.

Sunday was the 'YAY!' day as we woke up early to drive into Yosemite. There was so much traffic in Yosemite that it was unbelievable. We had lunch at Yosemite village, and proceed to the start of the Vernal Falls trail. It took the group two hours to get to the top of the trail, but it was well worth it. Many jokes passed about how it should be named the 'shower trail' as opposed to the 'mist trail' for we all got soaked. The water level of the falls was really high, so as we climbed near the side of the falls, we were sprayed with tons of water. I had so much fun on the trail. I can't wait for the various people with cameras to give the pictures to me. All in all, we walked over 6 miles (2 of them up and steep) yesterday. I got a ride back with Quico, met his parents (we stopped to pick up his dog) and eventually got home past midnight. My body tried to wake me up at 6 - 7 am this morning, and I promptly told my body 'screw that' and forced it back to sleep till 10 am, a much more decent time.

MINAKO! I am an idiot and can't find the account number. Further, I can't find your phone number! Call me when you get back from AX! I'm so sorry!

~Rachel, attempting real updates on a more frequent basis.

P.S. Oh, and happy fourth or something like that. I get to watch fireworks with Sam and Shawn and Sonya and Robert! I should buy us an ice cream cake.
