I got really mad at my upstairs neighbors yesterday. They woke me up from my nap that I was taking before work with an hour plus long session of hammering. What in god's name needs hammered that long in an apartment? It sounded like they were building a damn ark! My neighbors are inconsiderate, loud, and just downright annoying and my landlords haven't fixed anything we've requested even though we submitted a work order over a month ago.
So I finally snapped and started researching areas that are available for rent, looking primarily for duplexes. I found a place in NE Albany that is in the middle of switching ownership/management that is renting a two bedroom duplex for $525 a month, which is $50 cheaper than what we pay now. But since they're switching owners, there are some things that may be a problem.
QUOTE: Statement.
We took over managing the 12 unit complex in mid march. The property had been poorly managed and run down. We immediately started cleaning up the property and making needed repairs. Half of the tenants vacated within the first 2 months because they either had not been paying their rent and/or they did not wish to comply with the basic rules of being a good tenant and neighbor. We rented all the vacant units to what we believe are good tenants and the neighborhood has seen a huge improvement.
The owner has recently put the complex up for sale and has a buyer waiting for him to make some repairs to the septic system. If you have visited the property recently you may have noticed the holes and caution tape. We have not spoken to the buyers and do not know their plans for the property once they take ownership (30 to 60 days). The current owner has told us to "do nothing", do not spend any money, do not remodel or improve the units or property in any way. We can still preform our regular duties however we are unable to clean or improve the units before renting them, that is until the new owners take over and tell us what they will allow.
If you are still interested in renting one of the vacant units it would be with the understanding that the unit will come "as is". We could possibly wave all or part of the security deposit or first months rent, depending on the condition of the unit. The application process and fee is mandatory. Both units which are due to vacate on June 30th were asked to vacate so we can not be sure of their cooperation in vacating or the condition of the units.
So, I am going to go look at the units after the 30th before getting too excited. But it has a fenced in backyard and one neighbor next to us instead of one on each side and one above and one above and over. Well, here's hoping it's not a dump and that Alan and I can finally get out of this apartment.
