My mom has been battling brain cancer for about a year now. It was previously a malignant tumor that showed up in my eigth grade year. She underwent treatment at Loma Linda in California and by the time I was in my Sophomore year, it was almost comlpetely gone. By my junior year, the doctor's couldn't find a trace of it. Mom stopped going to her monthly MRIs like she was supposed to. If she had, then maybe the tumor wouldn't have come back cancerous like it is now.
The tumor covers almost half of her brain and has caused it to swell considerably. Basic functions like speech and movement are a lot harder for her now and her memory is failing frequently. Today she went in to talk to her doctor about her most current MRI.
They admitted her at the hospital for sugery. She goes under tomorrow. Supposedly her brain has swollen so much and the tumor covers so much that it has stopped the flow of any brain fluid. I am not sure what all the process entails, but they say that the surgery is low risk for the most part, but things can still go wrong. She should be home this weekend.
My aunt, uncle, and two cousins are flying in tomorrow from Las Vegas to be here. Which means that I am going to be cornered and thoroughly scolded for taking off and leaving in three weeks time for Oregon to be with my boyfriend. My nana is also planning on coming over.
It seems like things tend to take a nosedive for the worse all at once. But then, I can't help but hope that all at once, things are going to get better for me and everyone else around me.
