He'd come again and all she could do was watch. He'd come to stare at her and vow once again that he would save her. If she could speak, she would command him to leave this cursed place, insist he save himself. He needed to get away from Gyokymen Koushou and her insanity. That woman was likely to kill not only Kougaiji, but her own daughter, Lirin, as well.
Koushou had always been greedy but until Gyumaoh's death, she'd been somewhat stable. The two of them, wife and concubine, were even civil to one another at that time. Then Gyumaoh had lost his senses and his life, dragging Koushou into his crazy schemes, twisting her already fragile mind. Rasetsu-nyo could only suspect there was something in the castle that made everyone insane.
Then there was Nii. He was already insane when he showed up. The dark aura of madness seemed to permeate the very air surrounding the scientist. Koushou had hired Nii to resurrect Gyumoah, further indication of Koushou's weakened mental state. What would Gyumoah's rebirth gain for any of them? Another reign of terror by the gods.
Kougaiji stood below, gazing at her with love. He would do anything for her and give up almost everyone. If she could speak, she would tell him her greatest wish, the wish that he would remain safe and whole. Her deepest hope was he would go with his friends, the ones who loved him, and live. She dreamed he would hear her wish and flee.
Instead, he came to her and told her his hopeless plans to rescue her while he fell deeper into Koushou's clutches. He loved his mother. He would save her, no matter what.
And all she could do was watch.
