Goku sat on the Inn roof, his legs crossed while he watched and waited. He figured the time was almost right. He furrowed his brow, wondering if he should actually do something this time. No, he was sure Sanzo would get mad if he did.
“Hey, Monkey,” Gojyo said, pulling himself onto the roof and standing next to Goku. He felt weird doing this, spying on his friend. He also felt some other emotion, something he’d never experienced before. “Any sign yet?”
Blinking in confusion at Gojyo, Goku finally answered, “Not yet. I didn’t think you even knew about this.”
“Of course, I know.” Gojyo’s voice was almost a growl. He felt angry but he didn’t know why. “Do you think I’m deaf or something?”
“Well,” Goku leaned back on his hands and gazed up at his friends glowering face, “in the first place, Hakkai never makes noise.”
“It’s not Hakkai I can hear.” Gojyo lit a cigarette. For some strange reason, he really, really wanted to hurt someone. Really badly.
“In the second place, you aren’t usually around to hear anything. You know, ‘cause you have your own hobbies and all.”
“Hobbies?” Gojyo inhaled, embracing his nicotine calm. “What are you talking about, Monkey?”
Goku tossed his head. “You know, all the women you screw.”
“Who told you that?”
“Sanzo did. He also told me to stay out of it and to not bother Hakkai and… well, he said it wasn’t our business.” Goku shrugged. “But still, it kinda freaks me out having him around all casual like this. I thought he might wanna fight on occasion but he usually just disappears after, like he’s happy or something.”
“Huh.” Gojyo’s eyes narrowed. “How long have they…?”
“I dunno.” Goku’s gaze returned to their surroundings. “I noticed a couple of months ago. I think he might really like Hakkai. I’m kinda glad ‘cause Hakkai doesn’t seem quite as sad anymore. You know, back when he’d watch you wander off every night he’d get really sad.”
Gojyo’s voice was nearly a whisper when he said, “Yeah.” He hadn’t known, but he had suspected. But… a couple of months? He really was slow sometimes.
“I think he liked you better, but you know how he is, once he decides something.”
Gojyo felt like Goku had slapped him. “Yeah, I do know how he is.” For some silly reason, Gojyo never thought Hakkai would give up on him. He was so stupid.
Goku shook his head. “You really are stupid, you know that?”
“Yeah.” Gojyo exhaled. “I’m beginning to see how stupid.”
“I’m glad you know that.” Kougaiji said when he joined them on the roof. “I won’t feel as bad when I kick your pathetic ass.” Kou was furious. Really furious. What had just happened between him and Hakkai was beyond unacceptable and this person, this blind man was the cause.
Jumping to his feet, Goku’s smile melted when he said, “Aww, man, you’re here because you want to fight Gojyo?”
Gojyo turned his head to glare at Goku. “Don’t sound so disappointed, Monkey.”
Goku watched in impressed silence when Kou pulled back his arm took a step forward and punched an unprepared Gojyo in his jaw.
Staggering with Kougaiji’s blow, his eyes blurring, Gojyo desperately tried to stay vertical. Unfortunately, he stepped down the roof’s angle and lost his balance completely. His shoulder connected with the tiles and he flailed with his fingers, tearing nails and abrading skin, trying to gain some purchase while sliding inevitably toward the roof’s edge.
Aww shit... He fell.
Luckily for Gojyo, Sanzo was there to break his fall.
Following Gojyo’s tumble, Goku scrambled to the roof’s edge and peeked over. He burst into laughter at what he saw; Gojyo had managed to land squarely on top of Sanzo.
“Please tell me he’s dead.” Kougaiji said. His hands still clutched into fists while he looked over the side. He really wanted to hurt that bastard. Gojyo. The name reverberated in his head and he wanted to scream in fury.
“Nah, he’s a cockroach and you can’t kill ‘em that easily.” From the ground, Goku could hear the steady stream of swearing from both men. He sat back and looked curiously at Kougaiji. “What d’ya hit him for, anyway?”
Kougaiji moved away from the roof’s edge, preferring to stay out of Sanzo’s possible line of fire. More to himself than to Goku he said, “The Sha family are idiots. First Yaone, now…”
Goku watched him for a moment before speaking again. “Still wanna fight?”
“While I appreciate your offer, not today, Goku.”
Goku was hopeful when he asked, “Then, next time?”
Kougaiji paused at the roof’s peak and he didn’t bother to disguise the bitterness in his voice when he answered, “I’m afraid there won’t be a next time. Apparently, my hair is correct shade, but my eyes are the wrong color.”
“Hey…” Goku watched him spring away. “Damn it,” he said, and then he started his climb towards his arguing friends.
Sanzo was pissed. First, the Innkeeper had insisted he smoke outside and then Gojyo had fallen on him, breaking many of his cigarettes. Now the Kappa was on the ground moaning in pain. “Will you shut up!”
“Fuck you!” Gojyo shouted. His body hurt everywhere, but the pain he felt coming from his arm was excruciating. “I’m pretty sure my arm is broken.”
Shrugging Sanzo said, “That’s what you get for wrestling on the roof.”
“I wasn’t wrestling! That bastard Kougaiji blind-sided me. What’s his problem, anyway? He’s already screwing Hakkai, what else could he want from…” Gojyo trailed off when a looming shadow fell over him and he shivered. Oh no.
“Please Gojyo,” Hakkai knew his voice sounded like hardened silk while he smiled, “do not stop your excessively loud train of thought on my account.” First, he had embarrassed himself with Kougaiji, ruining what they had. Now this, Sanzo and Gojyo discussing his love life in public, he couldn’t bear any more humiliation today.
“Hey, ‘Kai.” Gojyo swallowed. Hakkai was giving him that scary smile. “I was just…”
“Oh, my, are you injured?” Hakkai reached out, his fingers gripped Gojyo’s damaged arm and he forced his companion to his feet. Perhaps he was a little rough, but he’d had a rough day. “Let me help.”
“Oww, Hakkai! Take it easy.” Gojyo complained. He glanced at Hakkai’s face; one of his green eyes was oddly elliptical. The bad one. This time Gojyo shuddered. He didn’t know why, but he felt guilty. “Look, it wasn’t my fault!”
“Whatever do you mean, Gojyo?” Hakkai asked while he looked at Gojyo’s injuries. “Your arm appears broken. Come along, I’ll heal you.”
Gojyo tried to step back but Hakkai had his arm in a steely grasp. He knew Hakkai’s healing could be wonderful, he had made Gojyo orgasm on more than one occasion. However, Gojyo had also seen Hakkai make people scream when he healed them. “Nah, that’s all right Hakkai, I’m good.”
“No, Gojyo,” Hakkai’s fingers sunk in deeper. He was tired of dancing around the obvious with his roommate. He had nothing left to lose. “I want to heal you. I also think we need to talk.”
Gojyo wondered what that meant. Looking over his shoulder with hopeless pleading, he saw an amused Sanzo. There would be no hope of help from that bastard. Gojyo shook his head, how had he become the bad guy in this situation? “Hey, Hakkai,” he said once again, this time a little desperately, “it’s really not my fault. I didn’t do anything.”
Goku stepped next to Sanzo just in time to watch Hakkai drag Gojyo away. He gazed at Sanzo and said, “I don’t get it.”
“That’s because you didn’t hear it.” Sanzo lit a cigarette.
“Hear what?”
“Hakkai cried out during sex this time.”
Goku’s eyes widened. “He did? Wow, what did he say?”
Sanzo’s lips twitched into a smile. “Gojyo.”
“Oh.” Goku stared at the door his friends just walked through. “Gojyo's in so much trouble.”
Sanzo inhaled his smoke and smiled again. “Yes, he is.”
