Summary: What Gojyo is good at.
A/N: Challenge 58, Gojyo tops Hakkai. 188 words. I think this is the shortest thing I’ve ever posted. I gave myself fifteen minutes to get an idea out of my head and onto paper & this is all I came up with before the time ran out. I admire y'all who can do so much in so short a time.
Day after day for hundreds of days life is the same thing: drive, fight, eat, argue, laugh, sleep. Hundreds of thousands of minutes of routine, routine killing, routine living. Now and then it boils down to a few painful minutes of sharp desperation, of grasping at each moment after moment of life.
Hakkai is good in those acute, breathless moments. The clarity he finds in desperation is frightening and useful. It’s also a little outside of reality: when it’s all over it might have been seconds or days, and he never knows for sure until he’s told. And when it’s all over there’s always Gojyo, bandaged and smoking, bitter but laughing.
Gojyo is bitter because he thinks he was useless. Hakkai is only glad that Gojyo is always there to pick them up. Literally, he picks them up and tosses them over his shoulders and under his arms and hauls them away until they can grab their own moments of life again. Hakkai suspects that at the end, it will be just Gojyo, carrying them all out of the rubble, laughing at them and desperate that they live.
End.
