His arm lay draped around my waist. I could feel a smile tugging at the corners of my mouth. I swallowed, keeping my breathing even. Sanzo didn’t snuggle. If I woke him now he’d pull away, turn his back, and pretend I didn’t exist. I ran my hand along his arm and felt him shift closer, stretching until his chest was flush with my back. I could feel his heart beat, slow and steady, lulling me towards sleep. I didn’t want to sleep. I wanted to memorize this moment, lounge in his heat, and breathe his heady scent of tobacco, sweat, and my shampoo. The only stake I had in him as far as he was concerned.
Shivers ran down my spine as I felt his erection dig into me. I wanted to grind against him, to tear his clothes off, and impale myself on his hardness. I lay still trying to control my trembling. Was it me, or was his breath getting lighter, closer to consciousness?
His breathing slowly deepened once more and I could feel sleep dragging me into darkness. The moon had already begun its descent as late turned to early.
Konzen sat watching Tenpou read, a cigarette held loosely between those soft lips. Konzen could still feel those silken lips against his own. He stilled his hand before it could cover his mouth; he wanted to hold on to the feeling. What a sentimental sap he’d turned into recently. The one person who knew him the most in the universe was right in front of him and he was thinking about a kiss from hours ago.
Minutes passed and Tenpou’s brow creased. Konzen sat still and drank in the sight of Tenpou who’s eyes were locked in concentration as the marshal absentmindedly ran his fingers through the unruly mop of hair on his head. He refused to cut it. It had looked decent up until the time he let the stupid monkey play barber shop. Now it was short in places and long in others, but still he refused to get it fixed. He said something about it hurting someone’s feelings. Konzen thought it made Tenpou look like a fool. He was so strange. Konzen sometimes felt that he would never be able to understand his best friend no matter how many millennia they spent together.
His back was starting to hurt now and a strange desire to piss Tenpou off stole over him. With the monkey, Tenpou had patience to last eternity. With Konzen, Tenpou’s patience usually lasted all of a few seconds. His lips curved into a smile. He wanted to see Tenpou’s soft lips curved down in that disapproving way of his, or better yet, pursed into a pout.
In two strides Konzen was in front of Tenpou’s desk. Tenpou didn’t look up. He would never acknowledge people when he was reading, not even the Merciful Goddess, hirself.
Before his movements could be tracked and parried by the too-wise field marshal, he reached over and plucked the cigarette from Tenpou’s mouth and placed it in his own.
One inhale, though, told him what a mistake this had been. His throat burned and his eyes filled with tears. He hunched over and coughed, loud enough that it echoed off the office walls. Tenpou’s laughter drowned him out. Tenpou leaned back in his chair and practically howled.
Before the cigarette could be extinguished on the carpet, Tenpou plucked it up and slid it back in between his lips, inhaled, and then pulled a breathless Konzen in.
His lips pressed against Konzen’s and they both opened, tongues and smoke being allowed free reign.
Maybe he could get used to this smoking thing after all, with Tenpou as a filter of course.
Konzen forgot his burning lungs or the acrid taste the smoke left in his mouth and pulled Tenpou against him, ignoring the laughter still playing in his eyes. He reached for the ashtray and finally settled, putting the cigarette on the desk as he yanked Tenpou to the floor.
He was in no mood to play around anymore. Tenpou had been away on duty for far too long, damn loyal army dog that he pretended to be. He nearly ripped Tenpou’s jacket as he yanked it off. It was soon followed by the rest of their clothing, forming a small mountain to add to the peaks and valleys that always existed in this chaos Tenpou called an office.
He said a quick prayer to someone other than the un-Merciful Goddess that the cigarette wouldn’t light the stacks of paper on fire. They’d be doomed in this tender-box room.
Tenpou’s tongue was in his mouth again and he felt his own erection rise up to meet the one pushed into his gut.
Hakkai couldn’t tell what had brought on the dream as he shifted awake. He rubbed his eyes to clear them. It was rare when he drifted to sleep and always a bit startling when he woke up realizing he’d been unaware of sleeping.
He smelled smoke and for a moment thought he’d roll over to see long blond hair and strangely familiar violet eyes. He was about to roll over when lips closed over his ear and sucked. His whimper sounded loud in the quiet of early dawn.
Hands snaked inside his pants and wrapped around his cock beginning a familiar rhythm. Sanzo wouldn’t let Hakkai turn around. He wouldn’t let their eyes meet. Hakkai resisted the urge to sigh and leaned into the touch, soon forgetting what it was he was supposed to be upset about. His breath hitched and he moaned Sanzo’s name. A crushing hand slammed over his mouth, silencing him.
The sun hadn’t yet risen so it’d be a few hours still before Goku came in wanting food. Sanzo’s hand eased up as his mouth slipped along Hakkai’s throat. Hakkai swallowed the moan this time, feeling his lip swell where the ring of Sanzo’s arm sleeve had broken skin.
Still the smile pulled at his lips once again. Much better to be awake after all.
The fire was still blazing as several of the Western Army’s men ran with buckets of water. It was the middle of the night and as the flames slowly died down Konzen and Tenpou were pulled from the room. Kenren, who’d been in the lead when the alarm had been sounded couldn’t help but laugh. Tenpou would need to learn sometime that smoking can kill a man, not to mention sex drive.
