Summary: Sometimes, Hakkai thinks loud enough to keep Gojyo awake.
“What’s wrong?”
“Huh? Oh, I’m sorry, did I wake you?”
“Nah, not really. Can’t sleep?”
“I’m afraid so. I’ve been thinking…”
“It’s not even raining, yanno.”
“…Ahaha, some of us don’t think on a seasonal basis, Gojyo.”
“…What the hell. I was just tryna be-“
“-Helpful, I know. Thank you.”
“…So, what’s that pretty head of yours dwelling on now?”
“Oh, nothing much, really. I was just wondering…have you ever thought about what it might have been like if things turned out in another way?”
“Why the fuck would I? Nothing’s wrong with the way it is now.”
“Ah, of course. But sometimes, I can’t help thinking that I might have been different.”
“What? Like fat, greedy and lecherous?”
“Oh! I didn’t know you read.”
“Eh? What’s that got to do with anything?”
“…Ah, I see. Never mind. Please ignore what I said.”
“…You’re not secretly laughing at me behind that irritating smile of yours, right? Oi!”
“Ahaha, I’m sorry my smiles annoy you~”
“Geez. Save it. You’re not bloody sorry at all. So? What’s it Mr. Think-More-Than-You wants to change so badly he won’t let decent people sleep coz’ of it?”
“Decent people?”
“Oi.”
“Ahahahaha. I did apologise for keeping you awake, Gojyo.”
“Just answer the damn question, Hakkai.”
“Oh, it’s nothing much, really…I’m not sure I like all of my life, that’s all. In fact, I’m fairly certain I don’t.”
“Yeah? That’s stupid of you. Stupid, but I can see why, I suppose.”
“Sorry.”
“Quit it.”
“S-Yes.”
“…This isn’t about wishing three years ago didn’t happen?”
“Does it seem to be about that?”
“Can you stop answering my questions with more bloody questions?”
“It’s not about three years ago. Not entirely. Parts of it, maybe, the killing, definitely, but…”
“…‘Kay, and?”
“…There are some things I wouldn’t change for the world.”
“Yeah?”
“Yes.”
“And care to share what they might be?”
“Well, Sanzo’s leadership qualities, for one.”
“What the fuck!? That’s not leadership, that’s bossiness-“
“- and Goku’s earnestness for another.”
“…”
“And I will always prefer Hell to Heaven, of course.”

“…Some people might say that’s your loss, yanno.”
