Feminist? Misogynist? Racist?
I ask myself those questions as I sit myself down tonight to play some Street Fighter III: Third Strike.
Here's how it plays out. As you progress through the game it gives you a choice between two people whom you'll fight next. At every turn I'm finding it to be a bit more than habit to choose the female character. However, I'll always choose AGAINST Elena, who happens to be the only African Female character.
The Racist Misogynist
I'm a racist, misogynist bastard because I like to beat down on women, and refuse to even be around the black woman. I get great joy from seeing Akuma, Ryu, or Ken lay the smack down on these weak examples of humanity who have no idea going out to fight men. In this viewpoint of my choices I am clearly a woman hater and a future wife beater who is obsolete as a human being.
The Feminist
As a man I'm finally bowing down and turning away from my urges to see women as weak and powerless. I acknowledge that the female cast of the game are a skilled, powerful, confident, and capable group of fighters with their own unique challenges to bring. I will fight, learn, and sometimes lose to these women. In my avoidance of Elena I take the submissive route to show that I don't find myself a match for her technique, grace, poise, and ferocity.
Which one is it? Depends on you!
