Secret Santa Fic Exchange 2011!
You know how last year I was totally early? This year I'm totally late.
But in conjunction with our excellently dirty sister-in-crime community saiunpornium, as well as our customary Ryuuki mascot, I am very pleased to present . . .
The annual Secret Santa Fic Exchange!
Yes, I'm running behind, and I'm sorry. It's no one's fault but my own . . . but for that reason the sign-up period will be somewhat truncated, so please make up your minds with alacrity, hm? This year we're going to be holding down the Yule-time fort with saiunpornium, who will be co-hosting and handling the fics with a higher rating. This exchange has resulted in a great many wonderful fics, and hopefully the result will be similarly awesome this time around. As an added bonus, at the special request of one of our members, we will be adding an art exchange to the normal mix!
We're up to volume 5 in the manga, too, so there should be some excellent story fodder there. ;-)

What you would like your story/art to be about? What would you like featured in your story/art: an AU (alternate universe) of some kind . . . I don't care what! Modern day, historical, fantasy, sci-fi, mythological . . . hey, I wouldn't mind a crossover (where the characters are in another, already established world). I really just want to see the characters re-imagined in a different setting. If Ryuuki's in it you can't possibly go wrong. I also adore brotherly cute between Seiran and Ryuuki.
Squicks and other elements that you would not like in your story/art (pairings, plot elements, etc): Shuurei paired up with anyone other than Ryuuki (unless it's a past relationship), character death. If you go the crossover route, no characters from other series in major roles, please.
Pairings/Characters you are willing to write/draw: Surprise me!
What you won't write/draw: Shuurei paired with anyone other than Ryuuki, anything above a PG-13 rating (mostly because I'm bad at it)
Are you able to pinch hit if necessary, and if so art or writing: Of course, but writing only, my art is abysmal . . .
How to submit:
Send your stories or art to me and nikolitaaltheasadiablo@hotmail.com and nikoley_jean@hotmail.com by 12 p.m. EST on December 20. Stories should be sent as either a txt or a word document, and with all tags (< b >, < i >, < center> etc) in place. Art should be sent as a JPEG (er, I think; I've never done much with art before). Please do not use any other formatting unless you code for it, as I have no idea how to do any fancy coding. If, for some reason, you need an extension or have to drop out of the challenge, please let me know as soon as possible.
Rules
1) All pairings, plot lines, ratings and so forth are accepted. This is a very broad fic and art exchange that will hopefully be able to meet everyone's needs!
2) As with any situation where the story is a gift for someone else, please try your best to fulfill the other person's wishes. I will do basic editing, but please make my job a bit easier and do your best with grammar. You know you want to click that cute spell check button! ;-)
3) Minimum word count is 500 words. You are more than welcome to write more than this, of course!
4) You do not have to be a member of the community or even of live journal to participate, but you must have a valid email address.
5) All requests will remain anonymous until the 'big reveal' a week after the stories have been posted. During this week, members will be able to vote for the best submission. The prize for the winner will be either a copy of volumes 1 and 2 (when it comes out) of the new English release of the Saiunkoku manga, or any extra merchandise/doujinshi I can dig out of my boxes from Japan (since I don't live in Japan anymore I don't have easy access to doujinshi, but I might have some in my collection that I'd be willing to part with), or an issue of Asuka magazine.
6) Because of the anonymous aspect of the challenge, participants will not be allowed to publish or publicize their submission elsewhere until after the authors are revealed. Afterwards, do what you like!

You never know what might happen: sometimes people get mauled at the mall while fighting for that last furry rodent toy, and can’t finish their fic. But ’tis the season to be giving! If you’re willing and able to step in if one of the Secret Santas has reindeer-trouble and can’t deliver, please make a note of it either in your request comment (you'll notice that it's the last question) or in a separate comment on this entry. Pinch hitters earn my undying gratitude and, um, I’ll edit your next fic?
