It is only on third reading that the significance of the opening paragraph hit me:
Shou’s purpose (or at least part of his purpose) in manhandling Enjun was to get him to sleep!
Hahaha, I like that, it’s funny and sweet all at the same time!
And, yes, sexy, but that one’s obvious, no? ^_^
Ok, seriously, I like that Shou did it more for his friend’s gratification than for his own. The carrying, changing of clothes, and tucking into bed also reveal Shou’s love.
I also like the way you kept Shou in character, by retaining his manipulative nature. Enjun’s exasperated ”Eiki expects me to join her … I’m stuck in Kiyou with you!” hints at the rivalry, which you subsequently revealed, between Shou and Eiki for Enjun’s time and affection. Good job!
Ah-haha, this round Shou wins! Love his ”Lady Eiki will understand” - yuuup, she will understand that she lost, and fume.
I have something to fess up to:
The first reading left me … lost! That’s because my own interpretation of the two bits of dialogue was rather different. I had to retune my brain, and read again. After which I read the two bits of dialogue with your fic in mind.
Only then did I see that the dialogue could be interpreted the way you did - that Enjun was half-willing and half-unwilling about the sexual aspect of their friendship. Yes, that would tie in with
”a friend whom you hate and so loved”
and also with what Shou said to Enjun in that same conversation about Enjun being “stubborn” when he denied that he loved Shou.
Oh, yes, even with Shou’s parting shot to Eiki about sending her the best wrinkle cream! Haha!
Said standing before the poor old lady in his beautiful, youthful, immortal tanuki form too!

Sorry about making you re-read LOL. I hope you didn't get too lost... I think it's good that we all interpret things differently (makes discussions more fun). I had to rewatch episodes 7 and 36 because I forgot the context of the dialog when I first read them in the prompts. In ep 7, after Shou kills Enjun, he holds him in his arms and looks at the sky, and says something along the lines of "I envy you, Enjun, for being human", so that's where I got it from.
I always thought Shou and Eiki were quite catty with each other especially in ep 36 when Shou just had to get that parting shot about the wrinkle cream. The whole Shou/Eiki rivalry actually came from the prompt itself, so thanks for writing a such a good prompt! :D
Shou always seemed to be quite manipulative in the episodes and Enjun's big plan with the Sa Clan totally surprised me the first time I saw it.

Yes, I did recognize that sentence (that conversation in Episode 7 left a deep impression). I just didn't know exactly what your Shou envied about Enjun's human-ness.

Shou envied Enjun's human passion, I think, from watching the episodes. Like ambition, how much he cares about the Sa clan, or even the way he'd love/hate Shou.
LOL, I HAD to rewatch the episodes because I kinda forgot which bit came from where *blush*
