Ahoy!

I had a tiring weekend.
Participated in the Relay for Life at Nambour. http://www.relayforlife.org.au/
I managed 32 hours with no sleep!
Unless I count the drifting in and out of consciousness in the last 2 of those hours on my way home.
After a couple drinks with some friends on friday night, I was up at 6 to get the train up the coast. For the first time ever, the Nambour train didn't break down, and there was no track work! So I got there at around 10, and the Chelsea Monster picked me up from the station and we went to set up our camp! We got a spot where the sun would be behind us and the breeze blowing into the tent in the afternoon (deliberately, honest!), so it was pretty much perfect. And close to bins, no big trips. :D 2 hours later, zee tent was erect! It was a big tent! And there were only 3 of us! And I haven't camped in years, and the others, never. That's my excuse. We went shopping, and loaded with supplies of coke, chips, fairy wings and rope.

Lots of people dressed up, lots of effort went into the camp sites, and everyone was happy and friendly, it was an amazing atmosphere, never really experienced anything like it! They had a candle lighting ceremony in the evening. You write a message on a paper bag, then light a candle inside it. Then do a lap of the field, before placing the candles alongside the track. It was actually quite moving. More so for those who've lost someone.

Unfortunately our numbers of overnight walkers was a lot less than it was going to be. Luckily we had a last minute recruit, or we'd have been down to 4! One woman who couldn't do the walk still turned up to support, she brought pizza! It was VERY appreciated! And reinforcements in the form of someone who makes the energizer bunny appear like a sloth turned up at 5am to take over the walking. Even more appreciated!

It rained for a while at some point during the night, but the walking continued, with umbrellas, raincoats, or, just people soaked right through.

All in all, it was a great experience, and once the pain wears off, and we decide to do it again, I think we'll have a much better idea of how to organise ourselves. Even so, Chelsea did an awesome job organising it all single handed.
