I just returned from Europe and one thing I noticed was over there people seem to be more accountable. While the accountability is enforced by the government, the people seem accepting of it, possible because it is the norm. While it is hard to justify that much government interference it's also nice that people are accountable for their actions.
Here is the problem I have, if you look at most internet sites these days in their disclaimer it lists what they are not responsible for. It does not matter if they own the site and do their own upkeep. For example I recently went to alienwares website, they were listing a laptop, with rebate for $-236. A great price, seemed a bit messed up but it was for the superman edition one, which I thought was just some super special clearance. So I called the company to check it out. The sales clerk knew nothing about the problem, I ended up sending him a screen shot with the error. After he received it, he put me on hold for several minutes, he then comes back and says check out our disclaimer at the bottom. So after reviewing the disclaimer it said "Alienware cannot be held responsible for pricing discrepancies due to errors in website functionality" and Gap has a similiar one as well "From time to time there may be information on gap.com that contains typographical errors, inaccuracies, or omissions that may relate to product descriptions, pricing, and availability. We reserve the right to correct any errors, inaccuracies or omissions and to change or update information at any time without prior notice (including after you have submitted your order)." I mean for gap I can understand, I am guessing they outsource their website design but for someone like alienware, they are a tech company. Much of their company is online based, their site should be perfect. I can understand a site going down, but to have pricing errors and to leave the errors up is just wrong. The errors were there for several hours.
In another example, take a look at the case where a woman put hot coffee between her legs. Come on, it's hot, it's full cause if not you would complain about a partial cup. So when her cup of coffee spills, yes you can expect to get burnt. Maybe McDonalds did make it hotter, but what do you want to bet that someone complained about it being not hot enough? McDonalds did try to keep the best product available for the customer and still got screwed. I could agree with the paying of medical bills, compensation for missed work and a minor amount for trouble, but if I remember correctly she got millions. Blamed McDonalds for all her life's trouble.
