I've been encouraged to write more often in my livejournal, so by gum, I'm going to do it... if only to stave it off from atrophy and becoming a deadjournal.
Annie and I have recently decided that we are going to fulfill our superhero fantasies vicariously by means of a graphic novel. She will illustrate it and I will write it. This scares me for two reasons. One being, Annie is a much better artist than I am as a writer so inevitably the plotlines will make little sense and probably revolve around characters lounging on futons, discussing the nuances of "Aqua Teen." The other reason this scares me is that I fear I am sinking so far into geekdom that the only way to save myself will be to frost my tips.
Some basic plot elements:
It is the near future. In the last year of his presidency, Pres. W is assassinated, leaving VP Cheney in charge...
To the government agencies that are reading this, you know who you are. Please in no way take this as a threat on the president's life. It is merely a planned work of fiction, a bad one at that. I have already paid the full amount of my speeding ticket to you guys, and I really don't even want to think about what a treason charge will cost me
...anyway, Cheney is in charge. It is such a national tragedy, that Cheney is re-elected. A totalitarian state emerges and Cheney rules all with an iron fist. The state of Michigan, in economic woe from the failure and departure of the auto industry, is making plans to sell the Upper Peninsula to Wisconsin. In exchange, the lower peninsula will get to fill in the entire eastern half with garbage, while Wisconsin gets to mine the shit out of the western half.
Enter our heroes.
Christopher, mild-mannered reporter for a U.P. newspaper by day, crime-fighter by night. I haven't decided if my power will be teleportation (an homage to my favorite X-Man, Nightcrawler) or the ability to control time. If I had the ability to control time, however, I would likely be too powerful. Thus my enemies would have no real chance of defeating me and learning my secret identity, decreasing the dramatic elements of the comic.
Annie, and her flying sidekick Kiyoshi. Annie can withstand any environment, including space. She can fly through the air and breathe underwater. Her special weapon is a camera that freezes bad-guys in place.
Our base of operations will be deep inside Mount Marquette. We will have our everyday fights with monsters and baddies, but the two main arcs of the graphic novel will be our fight for environmentalism and the fight against the corrupt future government.
