If you’ll make me a promise I’ll
tell you the time
Fall step beside me with what’s
on your mind
You’re speaking and I’m speaking
and we can be
heard
for miles and eons
Our words that are more than
words
I was never good with math
so, quite frankly, the facts don’t add up
If I’m here and you’re there
How is that fair?
If distance was felt like a prick on the wrist
I’m already dead and I’m begging for it
to stop tearing my heart
I just want to
sleep
and be near you
our heads touching
Our thoughts
dangling
precipitating
falling like
Every day I feel it
more and more
Crawling, whimpering, bellowing
twisting my arm back and whispering so only
I can hear
I’m afraid and I like
to hear it
And I listen
And I smile
And I wait
O the things you would say
and the fears in my dreams
That trust we would carry
on our backs
Time would not stop it
It'd stand still for us
as we ran
and jumped
laughing with tears
and blinded with lights
in this
hazy summer
And when you breathe in my ear
it sounds like forever and for every
comfort that is, and you are,
your head on my chest
I wish you could see
next to my heart
As we sleep
together
miles
apart
