I know New York, I need New York, I know I need unique New York...

Ok, I know the suburbs are nice and all, but seriously guys, I need to get out of here. They are a nice place in which to grow up... and then leave. It's nice to have, like, kind of nature-y things around, but there are so many things that annoy me about suburbia that the defects outweigh the benefits, at least for me. I can see how people would like to live here, but it just doesn't do it for me. The fact that you need a car if you want to get anywhere really bothers me. I don't drive and anyway, even if I did I would rather take public transportation. It is more environmentally sound and more convenient, I think. And really, if you want Real Nature, move out the the woods or something. This Bite-Sized Nature surrounded on all sides by housing developments and strip malls just does not do it for me. If I want Nature I'd rather go to the middle of nowhere, instead of a little compartmentalized Bit O' Nature.

I want to be able to take the subway downtown to get really good, inexpensive Indian food, to see a crazy free art exhibition, to window shop for half an hour and then return home when I feel like it.

In the apt words of the Decemberists, "I know I need unique New York..."

Three weeks before I leave! OMGWTFBBQ!

And on Tuesday morning I find out my housing situation! Ack! I know I should set my expectations low so I can't be disappointed but I really really really want a good roommate! Guys I am freaking out!

In other news, I hate my job. Watering plants is ok but the rest of the time I just sit around and hope no one buys anything, because I've never used the cash register and I don't want to mess it up. And god forbid they use a credit card. I think I would cry.

the suburbs, college, job, rants, new york
