A picture spam of the two character in Das Fliegende Klassenzimmer because of whom I bought the movie in the first place. I was sad to see they only had like 10 minutes of screentime together. But I capped all of it. :3
These are Robert Uthofft and Johann Bökh, inseparable best friends in a boarding school in East Germany, until Robert decides to flee to the West and Johann gets kicked from the school, because the Stasi suspects he knew of his friend's plans and because the play they were at that time writing together was somewhat anti-establishment ("Das Fliegende Klassenzimmer").
Basically, Johann's best friend is gone and his chances of a higher education are fucked.
Some odd 20+ years later, they're reunited thanks to a bunch of Johann's students.
Johann went back to to the boarding school that he was once kicked out from and has became a cantor there, well loved and adored by his students and Robert has just returned to Germany from travelling all over the world as part of Doctors Without Borders.
They used to hang out in an abandoned railway wagon. Before Robert returned to Germany, it was the hangout-place of Johann's students, but since he apparently has nowhere else to go, he now lives in the railway wagon. It's a non-smoker compartment and because of this, Robert's nickname used to be Nichtraucher (=Non-smoker). Johann's nickname is Justus (=The Just).
Johann wonders why Robert never wrote. Robert explains that he was feeling guilty for leaving and for having ruined Johann's future. Johann seems to be, if not completely over it, then at least pretty content with his current life and having forgiven his friend a long time ago.
Johann's choir performs at the Christmas concert and Robert is sitting right there in the first row with Johann's (adorable) girlfriend Kathrin. Johann's students are loving and wonderful and glances are exchanged and everyone just looks lovely.
Everybody is leaving for the Christmas holidays. Robert is going to see his father. Johann tells him that the school's doctor is going to retire soon and that he could put in a word for Robert. Robert jokes about it, but Johann is rather serious and insistent and Robert basically agrees to come back after the holidays.
And then Robert remembers his father is allergic to dogs, so he asks Johann to dog-sit for him.
They're getting shared custody soon, I'm sure.
