Middle weekend has come and gone. Got to see my oldest friends and hang out some. However, I've finally learned that you can't go home again. We may still be able to keep in touch in today's modern interconnected world, but I really can't cling to the fantasy that it will ever be like it was. We can't just take off for a weekend and play. Everyone's being pulled in different directions. The fact that we cross paths at all is just chance. It is the exception, not the rule.
This intermission in the middle of my tour in Iraq seems to be teaching me a lot. It makes for a good turning point. With this I feel that I can close the book on one chapter and begin the next. Lessons learned, moving on.
