Into the Void and Beyond...
Hey, Happy Beltaine to those who celebrate it. Hope it went well for you guys. And hopefully the fey won't be messing with you guys TOO much...
Also, extra points to those celebrating in the "old fashioned" way. ;)
Anyways, wanted to pass something along that I think you guys might find interesting. It's an essay on Cracked..com called "Embrace the Horror", and it's pretty interesting, and funny. The topic hits a lot of the points I used to (and still make) about how a lot of what we think life entails is actually just illusion. Keep in mind that this is a piece written at a humor site, and the writer takes some liberties with the facts (like the personal history of Dr. Werner Heisenberg), but otherwise, the whole of the essay is still worth reading, and should definitely gets the gears in your head turning. Let me know what you guys think... I'd love a good discussion on it. Alcander and I have already been having some talks about it since we've given it a read.

Also, for anyone into video games who's been following the latest news out there... yeah, Michael Capps (president of Epic Games) is pretty much an idiot. Saying that the Wii isn't worth making games for (actual words "we go foward, not back", and that it's like a virus that spreads as a chain reaction of being novel for a little while, but then people stop playing it after two months, just goes to show just how out of touch he and others like him have gotten in the video game industry. And it's funny to me how he thinks he and his crew are at the cutting edge of video game tech. If you guys are always going forwards and innovating, how come it seems like just about the only game you guys can make is Unreal Tournament? And why is it that your latest version has less features than past installments? Oh, wait, you guys did make a new franchise... Gears of War... which is another damn FPS. innovation my ass. Come up with a game with some decent AI worth talking about, or hell, even a game with little to no loading time (believe it or not, it CAN be done), and then well talk. Hell, just come up with something other than a FPS, and that's more than just shiny graphics and big burly guys in armor shooting things, and maybe then I'll take you seriously.
People play video games ultimately to have fun, and fine tuning the GAMEPLAY that makes the games fun is what innovation really is, NOT pretty graphics. Just ask Nintendo... they're kicking the other company's asses with their "underpowered" system because they are coming up with games people actually have fun playing. It's not about the polygons. Hell, the DS is the best selling game system out right now, and it certainly isn't the greatest graphics machine out there, now is it? Wake the hell up moron. It's people like you that's gonna cause another video game crash. Yes people, best believe it's coming. Don't say I didn't warn you.
